The Buccaneers opened their 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch before bouncing back with a 4-2 victory over Royal AM.

Riveiro’s side then trounced Sekhukhune United 5-0 in their MTN8 quarter-final clash, while the Chilli Boys have been a tough nut to crack in their two opening league matches, drawing 0-0 with both Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy.

Pirates ended last season in second place on the standings while claiming the MTN8 trophy and Nedbank Cup.

But the Bucs boss insists his team are always just one game away from a bad performance.

Riveiro explained: “In the end, it doesn’t matter if we play like this and we go to (Gqeberha) and we are too far from this level.

“I am not saying that we must replicate this level every time, but the (point) I’m making is that our worst game is not too far from our best game.

“However, if we manage to be there (at our best form on the day) then we are much closer to winning games because they (Chippa) are a good team as well.”

Riveiro added: “We know every away game is difficult. We are going to find a team that’s extra motivated to play Pirates at home. They are going to play to their possibilities.”
