Head coach Steve Komphela has been proud of Moroka Swallows' results amid the absences of several first-choice players this month.

Swallows’ 2023-24 DStv Premiership campaign has been limited by the absence of trio Lindokuhle Mtshali, Tshediso Patjie and Dumisani Zuma recently.

The young Olwethu Khumalo has been among their replacements, who had impressed in the Diski Challenge before joining the PSL team.

“I think at Moroka Swallows the circumstances work well for us. Our squad is quite thin because you could see Mtshali was not available and then a few injuries to Patjie and Zuma,” said Komphela.

“Then we had about four kids who come from our development squad. A setback for their seniors is an opportunity for them.

“So when matches come back-to-back at the back of injuries it becomes a problem because we are fighting for points. So now when you have a bit of a break it allows you time for the players, who are injured, to recover but it also says to you it breaks the momentum.”

Swallows are in fifth position on the PSL points table. They have three wins and two draws from their last five matches. Their next fixture will be against Kaizer Chiefs on 26 November.

“We can’t complain. Eight out of 12 points, what more do you want? In fact, by our own measure and our desire we said out of five matches we need 10 points. We have 11, we are happy with what’s going on but we know we could have been better,” added Khompela.
