John Maduka says he made the decision to leave Royal AM for Maritzburg United for personal reasons.
Maduka enjoyed a superb season as he led Royal AM to third place on the 2021/22 DStv Premiership standings.
He made the shock decision to leave and join the Team of Choice where the head coach post was vacated by the sacking of Ernst Middendorp.
Maduka said in the Sowetan: “The decision had nothing to do with football.
“It was a personal one, which I had discussed with my family. It was well thought out.
“I had to think about myself and do what is best for me.”
The former Bloemfontein Celtic boss added: “Yes, it is a risk, but I’m here now, up for the challenge.
“I would like to thank MaMkhize for everything, the board, players and everyone at the club. I enjoyed their support and it was about time I moved on.
“Maritzburg are capable of achieving things just like Royal, people didn’t expect them to do well but we transformed the team to be what it is today.
“The same thing can happen with Maritzburg. It’s a big challenge but we’re ready for that challenge.”
