Shalulile, whose absence due to injury had been palpable in recent matches, returned to the pitch, underscoring the indispensable role he plays in the team’s success.

The Brazilians secured a 3-2 aggregate victory, clinching the AFL crown.

Reflecting on the team’s historical strength in the striking department, former Sundowns midfielder Chancey Gondwe, in an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, emphasized that influential players like Shalulile have consistently been the linchpin for securing trophies.

Gondwe elaborated, “Sundowns’ recruitment strategy across different positions has remained consistent. They’ve always boasted special players, such as the likes of Daniel Mudau, Raphael Chukwu, Peter Ndlovu, and more recently, Katlego ‘Killer’ Mphela. The club has a knack for harnessing the prowess of these players to secure silverware.”

The triumph in the AFL final, according to Gondwe, serves as a testament to Sundowns’ commitment to excelling on the African stage. Looking ahead, he predicts their focus will shift to the CAF Champions League, fuelled by the invaluable experience accumulated over the years.

Gondwe stated, “They are primed to claim a second CAF Champions League title, building on their success in the AFL. Sundowns possesses players with the X-factor, individuals willing to go the extra mile for the team on the field.”

As Sundowns prepare for their upcoming CAF Champions League fixture against Mauritanian side FC Nouadhibou on November 26 at Loftus Stadium, the team’s journey continues to unfold with Shalulile at the forefront, embodying the legacy of influential strikers who have propelled the club to victory time and again.
