The 26-year-old midfielder joined the Brazilians from SuperSport United midway through the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.

He has played 68 times for the club, scoring five goals, while being named Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season at the end of the last campaign.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Mokoena explained that the competition for places pushes all the players to raise their game.

He is also still eyeing a CAF Champions League winners medal, with the club last winning the coveted trophy back in 2015.

Mokoena said in the Citizen: “Regarding the project (at Sundowns) I would say, I’m sold on it.

“I usually look back where I come from and the way I used to play and right now I’m miles ahead.

“I’m also enjoying my football, it has been tough and it will always be like that because the competition is very tough and that’s what makes us improve to keep on winning.”

Mokoena added: “I’m not happy because when I signed, I promised the chairman that we will win the champions league and we’re still working on it.”

Sundowns are currently competing in the African Football League, where they secured their place in the semi-finals after a 2-0 aggregate win over Angolan side Petro de Luanda.
