Richards Bay secured a point in their battle for survival in the DStv Premiership after a goalless draw against Polokwane City on Wednesday.

The Natal Rich Boyz are languishing in 15th place, with now just three matches to save their season.

The Durban-based side came into this tie on the back of a 2-1 win over AmaZulu, and recent wins over Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs, but were unable to find a way past Rise and Shine, who ended the evening in ninth place – level on points with Kaizer Chiefs in the final top-eight spot.

The draw did, however, edge Bay a point closer to 14th-placed Royal AM, who are currently five points clear of the drop zone.

Bottom-side Cape Town Spurs, have six fewer points than Richards Bay, were in action on Tuesday, beating Royal AM 1-0.

Richards Bay had started this tie with promise as Khuda Muyaba stole in on eight minutes, but he couldn’t steer his shot on target following a Thulani Gumede corner.

The duo again misfired moments later as Bay continued to look for an opener.

Polokwane hit back with a succession of their own set pieces but without any joy.

City defender came to breaking the deadlock with a header from a Simon Ramabu corner that he floated just wide, while Moses Mthembu fired off target at the other end as the two teams settled for a point apiece.

While Richards Bay face an in-form Orlando Pirates in their next league encounter, Polokwane take on Sekhukhune United.

Stellenbosch will be disappointed after they were held to a goalless draw at the Danie Craven Stadium against AmaZulu.

Stellies were looking to get back to winning ways and looking to finish the league campaign strong after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Sundowns at the weekend.

The host though could not break down a stubborn Usuthu defence that was well-marshalled by veteran Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Mbongeni Gumede.

The result means Stellenbosch remain second in the standings but the side from the Cape Winelands are now only a point clear of Orlando Pirates with three games still to play.
