This is the former Al Ahly head coach’s second heavy defeat this month after Abha were thrashed 8-0 by Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

Abha had everything under control, but the opposition managed to crack through their defence in a crucial phase of the game as Yannick Carrasco netted just before referee Shukri Al Hanfosh blew his whistle to signal the end of the first half.

The crack in Mosimane’s defensive wall grew wider towards the end of the game when Carlos Junior netted in the 80th minute before he completed his brace four minutes later.

Former Atletico Madrid star, Carrasco, also found the back of the net for the second time in stoppage time to complete the demolition job against Abha.

Mosimane now needs to go back to the proverbial drawing board and try to come up with solutions on how he can steer his team from the relegation quagmire.

Abha are 15th in the 18-team league where the bottom three drop to the second tier. Mosimane’s mandate is to protect Abha’s top-flight status and even though the club are moving on half-clutch, ‘Jingles’ has a chance to accelerate as he faces 16th-placed Al Akhdoud in Abha’s next match.

While mapping out ways to navigate into a safer position, Mosimane will keep a keen eye on the match between Al Riyadh and Al Taee, hoping for a draw in that affair. These two sides are in close proximity to Abha, sitting at positions 14 and 17 respectively.
