Writer’s Weekend Treble

Our blog writers are back at it with another weekend treble! Get on this weekend at a massive 16/1!

The disappointment of narrowly missing out on last weekend’s multiple is still haunting the boys here at blog HQ. The 21/1 treble that they tipped was ruined by a late show from the Springboks who came back from 12 points down to draw with the Barbarians.

Anyway, the boys have come up with another tantalising treble for you this week. Jason has gone for a Senegal win while Aaron fancies the Pharaohs to see off Ghana. Darry has bucked the CAF qualifying trend and is backing the Bordeaux Begles to beat Grenoble in the Top 14.

South Africa 31/20 | Draw 19/10 | Senegal 2/1

I cannot for the life of me understand why Bafana are priced up as favourites for this game. The West Africans are undisputedly superior in every single department  bar goalkeeper and it’s likely to show at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Aliou Cissé’s  squad oozes a delicious blend of pace, power and precision and will make life for Rivaldo Coetzee and Eric Mathoho tough at the heart of the South African defence. We also need to take into account the fact the Senegal are blessed with arguably the best African player in the world at the moment in Sadio Mané. The forward has been inconceivably good for Liverpool this season, routinely tearing apart some of the best defences in England. I simply can’t see Bafana winning here: get on Senegal at 2/1!

Grenoble 9/20 | Draw 18/1 | Bordeaux Begles 37/20
Last week was a huge disappointment as the Baa-baas threw away a commanding lead in the dying minutes of their game against the ‘Boks. That result has put me off punting on international rugby for a bit.

As such, I’ve turned my attention back to the French Top 14. And I think I’ve found a weekend winner in Bordeaux. Les Girondins travel to stragglers Grenoble, who have only won two games this season. I reckon Bordeaux, who have won six of their ten fixtures, will have too much for Grenoble.

Pick: Egypt (CAF World Cup Qualifiers)

Egypt 11/10 | Draw 21/10 | Ghana 26/10
The Egyptians started the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign with an impressive 2-1 come from behind victory away to Congo. Nonetheless, Ghana are a different beast and will provide a much sterner test.

The Pharaohs boast an outstanding home record as they have won eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Ghana were disappointing in their opening qualifier, playing out a dour goalless draw on home soil with Uganda.

The Black Stars come into this one without a victory in four matches in all competitions and will need to work their socks off to come away with a point, let alone three. The last time these sides went toe-to-toe, Egypt claimed a 2-1 home win. Expect a similar outcome with the Pharaohs tipped to capitalize on home advantage.

For The Brave

Stade Francais Win at 9/1 (French Top 14)
This is a massive risk but it could reap a huge dividend. Toulon have blown hot on cold this term losing games you really would expect them to win. The Top 14 giants went down 27-13 to newly promoted Lyon last Sunday.

Stade haven’t been in great for either, although they have given some of the league’s big guns a real run for their money – they went down by only seven points to defending champions Racing Metro in early October. If Toulon have an off day, which has been a frequent occurrence this year, then Stade may just pull off a massive upset and make us a lot richer. If this one does arrive you will have a multiple equating to 183/1.
