Telkom Knockout Cup Wrap and Semi Final Fixtures

quarterfinal preview

Chiefs hold on against Supersport United, Baroka stun Sundowns, Orlando Pirates need extra time to seal a win, and Bidvest Wits are still on track to defending their Telkom Knockout Cup.

Kaizer Chiefs v Supersport

Chiefs were largely the better team in the first half and took the lead through a great strike by Ramahlwe Mphahlele, after Willard Katsande had earlier missed a penalty.

In the second stanza the chances were few and far between as Chiefs advanced to the semi-finals.

Maritzburg United v Bidvest Wits

The visitors went ahead in the 39th minute when a Haashim Domingo’s shot was deflected into his own goal by Nazeer Allie.

Buhle Mkhwanazi extended the visiting teams’ advantage when he headed in from a corner.

Justice Figareido pulled a goal back with a superb effort after 71 minutes and even though United pressed for an equaliser, it did not arrive.

Baroka vs Mamelodi Sundowns

Bakgaga, who were missing coach Wedson Nyirenda in the technical area due to a family bereavement, took a 1-0 lead into the break courtesy of Mduduzi Mdantsane’s 22nd-minute penalty.

The upset was complete on 68 minutes when a mix-up at the back for the Brazilians saw Reyaad Pieterse put the ball into his own net.

Orlando Pirates vs AmaZulu

Milutin Sredojevic’s side opened the scoring through Thembinkosi Lorch in the 37th minute of their quarter-final clash in Durban, but Bongi Ntuli restored parity just three minutes later.

The second half brought no goals and extra time was required to settle matters. Xola Mlambo quickly put the Buccaneers back in front and Lorch sealed the win 13 minutes from time.
