The country’s best sprinters gather for the renewal of this Grade 1 sprint event and a usual thrilling finish is on the cards. The fairer sex has a trio of lively representatives and the five-year old mare FLY BY NIGHT gets the nod.
The Mike Bass trained daughter of Jet Master blossomed during her KZN stint last winter and she has continued that form in her home city. She was baulked for a bit when staying on for a close 3rd behind CAPTAIN OF ALL in the recent Grade 2 Diadem Stakes over six furlongs. She has a smart burst of speed as she displayed when beating the fast three-year old ALBORAN SEA (0.5kg worse off) going away over this c & d in her penultimate start. She was partnered by Fayd’Herbe on that occasion and will give her supporters a great run today.
The Drier inmate CAPTAIN OF ALL has always shown that he is top class and sprinting is certainly his forte’. He was sidelined for a long time due to injury but showed all of his determination when he held off COPPER PARADE to win his last start. The son of Captain Al will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the rest and has strong claims of confirming the form. He will love this minimum trip.
The latter (COPPER PARADE) should be very competitive.
