Race 4

KA BLING has only had the three runs to date, but he followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second place finish next time out over the same trip, just one length behind the winner, this despite coming four wide into the home straight. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and from pole position, he will be looking to make amends here.

PASCAL finished third on debut over this distance and then showed the expected improvement to win by one and a half lengths over six furlongs at the second time of asking when returning from a 22 week break. He was slow away and bumped shortly after the start that day which makes the victory that much more encouraging. From a handy gate four and with ex-SA jockey Glyn Schofield in the saddle, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

RAOUL also won his penultimate start, but in his case, over 1100M and followed that up with a second spot finish last time out when stepping up to six furlongs, a half-length back from the winner. He has his peak run since returning from a 25-week absence and from draw two, he should be included in all bets.

Race 5

LADY OF LUXURY has won, finished third and then second in her last three starts, the latest over six furlongs, two and a half lengths behind the winner, notwithstanding coming three-wide into the home stretch. She stayed on well in that contest and although having a wideish gate seven, she should turn in another honest performance today.

RAHNI FACTOR is seldom far off the action and skipped clear of her field at the 200M mark before being run out of it very late to end up in second place last time out over six furlongs, just a neck behind the winner. She jumps from gate four and should be right up there when they hit the line.

SWEET RUBY is drawn one outside the latter and tried to go from jump to wire before finishing seventh in her last outing over six furlongs, 4.2L adrift of the victor. She was returning from a 22-week break that day and did shift out over the latter stages. If keeping to a straight path here, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

With the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet SATIN RIBBONS to chalk up her third career victory. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has only had the three runs to date, finishing second on debut over five furlongs and then reeling off two victories over the same sprint distance, the latest by one length when returning from a 19 week rest and despite her jockey putting up 0.5kgs overweight. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate ten, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to move across without expending too much energy and as such, is made the best bet on the day’s card.

PICK THE SCORE is a 4yr old filly who made solid improvement to finish second in her latest outing over five furlongs, beaten just a short-head. She raced just behind the leaders that day and then battled all the way down to the wire. From draw six, she looks to be the immediate threat to the top pick.

ALPHA GO won his penultimate start over 1100M and then finished fifth next time out over the same c&d, 4.8L off the winner. He was returning from a 13-week break that day and reared at the start and was then bumped and hampered shortly after the start, before overreacting in the early stages, so that effort is best ignored. He is drawn one inside the latter and should be given another chance in this line-up.

Race 7

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot, but there may be some value in going with LUCKY BANNER, who is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she showed marked improvement when finishing third in her last run over seven furlongs, ending up 1.3L behind the winner after being forced five wide approaching the home turn. She has a cozy draw two and has her peak run after returning from a 23-week absence.

MISS SCALINI is a 5yr old mare who has consistent formlines to her credit, finishing second last time out over a mile after kicking clear of the opposition as she entered the home straight and only being chased down late. She faces a wideish gate nine, but she looks likely to turn in another honest performance today.

VIREN is drawn one inside the latter and was a tad disappointing when finishing fifth last time out over nine furlongs, 15.7L adrift of the winner, but that was on a heavy track and he did jump awkwardly. The form of that race has however stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He returns from an 18-week rest but has had the two barrier trials, winning them both. The gelding is trained by ex-SA jockey/trainer David Payne and should not be lightly dismissed.
