Race 5

REUBEN JAMES finished second in his last start over 1280M at this track, just a neck behind the winner when returning from a 23 week break. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and from pole position, he looks to be the one to side with here. Two 3yr old fillies could chase him home, with the preference going to CRAZY TRAIN, who has posted two solid last runs, finishing second in the latest over 1280M, just over a half-length back from the victor. She was making good late progress that day and she should turn in another honest performance here. LA JOLIE FILLE bucked shortly after the start and never got into the race at all and that effort is best ignored. She has had a barrier trial since then without any incident. She did win over 1350M three runs back and if returning to that sort of form, she should be right up there in the mix.

Race 6
SIR DONALD was a short-head winner of his last start over 1050M after hitting the front at the top of the home straight and then bravely holding off the chasing pack over the latter stages. He jumps from gate seven and is sure to enjoy the drop in distance today. HERZEGOVINA returns from a 19-week rest but has had the benefit of a barrier trial where he finished third. He was hampered all the way down the home straight when ending up in ninth place, 9.3L behind the winner last time out, but a line should be drawn through that run. He has a handy draw four and on his form prior to that last outing, he would entitle him to be respected in this line-up. BRYAN’S BABE is a 6yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and did win over this sprint distance three runs back. She has finished fourth in her last two outings, the latest over 1100M, when just under three and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She is sure to enjoy the drop in trip.

Race 7

A 4-year-old, 3-year-old filly and a 5-year-old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s best bet, JAJA CHABOOGIE is taken to lead them home. She has her first run since a 22-week break but did finish fourth in her only barrier trial to prove her well-being. She missed out on completing her hat-trick when racing green down the home straight to finish second last time out over this c&d, just over two lengths back from the winner. She has only had the four runs to date and now that she has had the experience at this track, she could prove hard to topple here. CROWNED EMPRESS followed up her penultimate run victory with an eighth-place finish next time out over 1100M, 3.8L adrift of the winner. She came five wide into the home straight that day and although drawn wide in gate eleven, she could be the biggest threat to the top choice. MABEL JOSEPHINE returns from a 25-week absence and one barrier trial where she finished third. She had finished second in her last outing over six furlongs, three lengths behind the winner and even though she faces and even wider gate fifteen, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

TINKA’S LAD has only had the three runs too date, finishing first, second and third. He won his penultimate start over 1100M and then finished second last time out over the same trip, just over half a length back from the winner. He clearly has some ability and could have more improvement to come. From draw seven, the gelding looks to be the one that they all have to beat. AREYA TUCHUZY returns from a 23-week break but has had one barrier trial. He is also lightly raced having had just the four runs to date, for a first, second, and third placing. He finished second in his last start over 1100M before the break, two lengths off the winner, and now returns to the five-furlong sprint. He faces a wide gate eleven, just should be right up there when they hit the line. WAAFIYA is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she won her last outing over 1100M by half a length and was immediately rested for 20 weeks. She returns here having had two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. She has a far kinder gate four and should be included in all bets.
