Race 4.

MAURICE’S MEDAD is a 2yr old colt taking on older horses, but he has finished third in his last two starts, the latest when just a neck behind the winner over seven furlongs. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only snared in the shadow of the post. He will have to negotiate draw ten, but he is likely to use that early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. TOOSTAR on the other hand has cracked pole position. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she had to be switched at the 250M mark before ending up in third place last time out over 1300M, just one length behind the winner. She was returning from a 19 week break that day and was friendless in the betting markets. OUTLOOK is another 3yr old filly in the race. She has only had the two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1300M and then fifth next time out over 1500M, three and a half lengths back from the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with four runners subsequently winning. She returns from a 17 week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials to prove her fitness.

Race 5.

The day’s value bet, O’TARTAN LASS is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she goes for her hat-trick after wins over a mile and the latest over 1280M by nearly three and a half lengths when returning from a 23 week rest. She hit the front as the field entered the home straight and strode away to post an easy victory. She has drawn wide in gate eleven, but she gets the services of ex-SA jockey Brandon Lerena so she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. MIX put five and a half lengths between himself and the opposition when winning his maiden race last time out over 1175M. He takes on stronger here and faces a wideish gate nine, but he has his peak run after returning from a 19 week absence and should be right up there when they hit the line. MILITARY ACADEMY came three wide into the home straight before ending up in fifth place last time out over 1100M, six and a half lengths adrift of the victor. He was returning from a 20 week break that day and will have to overcome a wide draw twelve, but nevertheless he should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up.

Race 6.

YARDSTICK has his peak run here after returning from a 22 week rest and has finished third and second in those two comeback outings. The gelding tried to go from gun to tape before finishing second in his latest run over seven furlongs, just over a half length behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He is sure to put his pole position to good use and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. FIFTEEN ARIA is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she has only had the two runs to date, winning on debut over 1300M and then finishing fifth next time out over a mile, two lengths behind the winner. She returns from a 12 week rest, but has put in two encouraging barrier trials. Despite a wide draw ten, she looks to be the biggest danger to the top choice. JUST A BROTHER followed up his maiden victory over 1300M with a third place finish next time out over this c&d, one length adrift of the winner. He was making good late progress that day and from draw five, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 7.

CEASEFIRE won by just over six lengths when making his debut over five furlongs and could be just about anything. He showed plenty of toe that day, so being drawn the widest in gate thirteen may not be too big an issue. Needless to say, he would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he might prove good enough to chalk up a quick double. GLOWING RED is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she has only had the two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1100M and then winning her last start over six furlongs by just over half a length. She was immediately rested for 18 weeks and returns here after having two barrier trials, finishing second in the latest. She has a handy draw three and should give the males a good run for their money. GRAVINA won his last outing over six furlongs by 1.3L and was then put away for a lengthy 58 weeks. He returns today after having had three barrier trials, finishing second in the latest. The fact that his connections have brought him back to racing after such a long time may suggest that they still believe that he has something more to offer.
