TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (Grade 1)
Race 9 – $2,000,000
00:20 – Sunday 3rd November 2019 (South African Time)

Plenty of European interest in this where the luxury of a draw between 3 and 7 can be a godsend. CIRCUS MAXIMUS has been a tentative favourite with Hollywoodbets based on his sheer consistency in top line races between 8 and 12 furlongs. He caught the frame in the Investec Derby but since being dropped in trip has plundered two Group Ones – the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp. His owners include the Niarchos Family and the might of Coolmore, and Ryan Moore will don silks successful in past Miles with the great Miesque, Spinning World, Domedriver, Six Perfections and Karakontie. With the late absence of Magical from the Coolmore challenge he rates that institution’s most high profile runner of the meeting.

The Chad Brown-trained UNI showed her closing qualities when landing the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland under her partner here Joel Rosario. She turned for home with five in front of her but quickened up impressively to notch a sixth win in her last seven starts over a mile. Few horses go gate to wire in this race and Uni is the ideal type to stalk the pace before being launched for a late bid.

GOT STORMY is another American-trained filly who can have a big say in the outcome, having become the first distaffer to defeat males in the Grade 1 Fourstardave at Saratoga. Not only did the Mark Casse-trained runner lower the course record by more than a second, but she had Uni in her wake. Case has talked of her being the next Tepin, which is high praise indeed as the latter was a duel Eclipse Award winner and won the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.

There’s a big gap in the betting to the next quoted runner. SPACE TRAVELLER has acquitted himself well since landing the Jersey Stakes at the Royal meeting, but doesn’t look a Group 1 horse; LORD GLITTERS hasn’t managed to post a frame finish since his Queen Anne triumph and was given a lot to do in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes when returning to Ascot last month. Stablemate SUEDOIS often turns up in the major international races but although often in the money has yet to indicate he’s up to landing a Group 1.

Though trained in Ireland, TRAIS FLUORS has done much of his racing in France under the tutelage of Andre Fabre. He placed in five consecutive Group races through the summer, and has to be respected.
