TOP BET

Race 2: CROWN OF GOLD(1)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON – Trainer: Tara LAING

CROWN OF GOLD has continued his great staying form in this province and his latest formline was given a huge boost when the runner-up, Current Event won a feature in the ‘Mother City’, nine days ago. This inmate from the Tara Laing yard produced a strong finish to beat the latter going away over twelve furlongs last time out and the seven-year-old son of Silvano now has his third run after a deserved winter break. He is by some distance best in on official ratings and should again take all the beating. The chestnut gelding is unbeaten from two c & d efforts.

Race 4: VILLA DEL LARGO(5)
Jockey: Robert KATHI – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

This is another exciting contest but at pinnacle level which sees the province’s best sprinters clash. The Snaith inmate VILLA DEL LARGO has probably resided here over the past few months and he was finally rewarded for consistency when achieving a smart last victory over the minimum distance. He beat slightly lesser opposition when favourably weighted that day but there was plenty of merit in the win as he took a bump at the 300m mark. He was helped by blinkers on that occasion and the Jallad gelding kept his 100% track record intact. His form proves that he is even better over this extra furlong and the six-year-old should go very well once again.

Race 5: DOOR OF DECEPTION(5)
Jockey:  – Trainer:

The Justin Snaith/Robert Khathi combination could be at it again here and DOOR OF DECEPTION is a confident first choice. The four-year-old bay colt is very well treated at the weights on official ratings & he drops in class after contesting a sprint feature at Kenilworth, last time out. He finished just over four lengths adrift in that competitive encounter and his two local starts on this track have been impressive. The son of Count Dubois fought back doggedly to win the Guineas over a mile on this course in April. He has drawn well and should take a power of beating.

Race 7: EROS’S GIRL(1)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

EROS’S GIRL is a classy sort who made a bright debut for her new yard. She took on a smart field in a Highveld feature and the daughter of Captain Al ran on well for a close 3rd at Turffontein. She drops heavily in class and is no stranger to PE, having won both her starts on this track. The Yvette Bremner inmate should take a power of beating, but the obvious concern is whether she has recovered from her Gauteng escapade.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 3: SPEED LIGHTNING(2)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Duncan MCKENZIE

This is a competitive maiden event and a close finish is expected. SPEED LIGHTNINGThis is a competitive maiden event and a close finish is expected. SPEED LIGHTNING probably lived up to his name as he showed lots of pace before tiring late into a much-improved 4th over this c & d, three weeks ago. He wasn’t far adrift of today’s rivals TOWNSHIP TALK and KING’S FIRE, but S’manga Khumalo could make a real difference on the son of A P Answer who clearly has more improvement to come.
