This shorter trip looks ideal for the Kotzen inmate who moved up dangerously before weakening over a mile recently. He is his jockey’s solitary ride on the card.

The likely strong gallop should favour the well-weighted Gauteng visitor ARPAD who has his first taste of the polytrack tonight. The inmate from the Brian Wiid yard isn’t effective in soft conditions but showed his worth at similar levels when quickening smartly to easily beat a competitive field over a mile, four weeks ago. He was raised three pounds for his exertions but still holds strong claims despite the slight rise in class. His midfield draw is a plus.

Jockey: K SAKAYI – Trainer: G VAN ZYL
There are some very quick types in the evening’s competitive topliner which should produce an exciting finish and possibly an upset. OUT MY WAY’s last run must be totally ignored as he clipped heels and dislodged his jockey. The son of Way West had cracking prior form, particularly over this c & d and he would have benefitted from the 13 week break. Furthermore, he gets a 4kgs apprentice allowance and often finds a strong finish so the likely blistering pace will be right up his alley.

Jockey: K DE MELO – Trainer: D HOWELLS
KINGS LADY escaped without harm and any penalty when she was badly impeded in her last outing over this c & d behind ROY’S EMBLEM. She eased severely at crucial stages of that event and in the end, did extremely well to finish a creditable 4th. The daughter of King’s Chapel is only 1.5kgs to the good with her conqueror but she really should have gone much closer and possibly won that last event. She has huge claims of exacting revenge tonight and represents excellent value from the best draw.

Jockey: J SAMUEL – Trainer: W WHITEHEAD
Once again the gallop should be hot in this low-key handicap over ground and that will suit the top rating TEXICAN who continues to drop in the merit ratings. He was making late headway when beaten just over three lengths by At Long Last over a similar trip on this course recently. Moreover, he is 2.5kgs better off with the runner-up of that outing, THE MONEY MAN which brings him heavily into contention.
