Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: BLUE BERRY PIE(5)
Race 2: ELYSIAN FIELDS(4)
Race 5: PRINCESS VARUNYA(2)
Race 8: ROY’S FLYER(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: SCARRABEAST(3)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Alistair GORDON

SCARRABEAST is in good form but was clearly 2nd best on his grass debut over this trip recently. He fought hard when close-up over this track & trip in his penultimate outing and still has decent scope for improvement. His yard has been among the winners recently and this bay gelding jumps from a good barrier position.

Race 5: PRINCESS VARUNYA(2)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Kumaran NAIDOO

The classy filly PRINCESS VARUNYA has improved with each of her comeback outings this season and she appears ready to get back to winning ways. The daughter of High Chaparral is best weighted in this Pinnacle Stakes and she is unbeaten from two efforts on this track. Her yard’s horses have hit good form in the past few meetings and the four-year-old import should go very close over this staying trip.

TOP BET
Race 6: NIGHT TRIP(1)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

NIGHT TRIP had a smart last sprint over five furlongs and of course, he did finish runner-up in a Grade 1 over this track & trip late last season. The evergreen Trippi gelding is extremely well in at the weights on official ratings and should take some beating in this lesser class. He has his peak showing today.

Race 8: TECHNO CAPTAIN(14)
Jockey: Tristan GODDARD – Trainer: Paul GADSBY

TECHNO CAPTAIN relished the steep rise in distance when he showed smart improvement over this c & d, late last month. The Captain Al gelding stayed on for 3rd from his wide draw and he should continue to progress. He only finished three parts of a length adrift of subsequent runaway winner Calabash that day and jumps from a good draw this time around. The three-year-old bay gelding was in turn just a short head in front of SPUN OUT on that occasion but he is 2.5kgs better off with that rival and has more scope for improvement.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: ICE RIDGE(5)

Jockey: Morne WINNAAR – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

There are some smart, improving types in this highly competitive handicap and this formline could be worth following. Unfortunately, there isn’t a natural frontrunner which makes things extremely tricky but the hat-trick seeking ICE RIDGE can take full advantage of that, particularly if setting his own tempo. He did just that when shedding his maiden tag over a mile on this course on his local debut in his penultimate effort. The Kannemeyer inmate followed up that performance with a more impressive showing under a big mass on his handicap debut, earlier this month. He is clearly on the up and his pedigree suggests that this extra distance will suit him well.
