International Racing: Doomben – 22 April 2020

International Racing: Happy Valley – Wednesday 22 April 2020

A competitive programme is scheduled for Doomben on Wednesday. The best bet comes in Race 10 in the form of GENZAI THE WOLF who has only had the three runs to date, winning one and finishing second twice. He does return from a 19-week break today and if fit and well, should be very tough to beat.

Race 3
This is an open maiden plate that could be dominated by unraced horses and the betting guide will be the best guide in the race. The first choice is SUPERARE who is a son of Exceed And Excel from the Stuart Kendrick stable with Luke Tarrant doing duty. He was a winner of his only barrier trial coming into this race. If not too green, he may be the one to beat. AVIEMORE is a daughter of Written Tycoon from the Barry Lockwood yard with Sean Cormack in the saddle. She has had two barrier trials coming into this race, the latest of which she won. She could be the one to throw out the biggest threat to the top choice.

Race 4
CENTRAL AMERICA produced some decent form before given a 20-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Sebring should have no issues with regards to fitness as she has had a barrier trial coming into this race. Apprentice Stephanie Thornton knows her well and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. DAULAT TAI PANAZIZ is an unraced son of Declaration Of War from the John Holcombe stable. He does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this type of field. Mark Du Plessis rides and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 5
BOLD HUNTER has just had the two starts to date. He won on debut over 1100m and followed that up with a good second-place finish over six furlongs. He gets the blinkers fitted for the first time today and if these have the desired effect, he should be very tough to beat. It is encouraging that jockey Ryan Wiggins retains the ride. SHADOW OF TIME’S last two starts under jockey Dale Smith have been very good. It must be noted that the form of his last race has been franked. The step up in distance should suit him well and if the top selection fluffs his lines, the son of Time For War may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 6
PULL ANCHOR’S form since winning her maiden has been good. She runs well on this course with a record of a win, two seconds and a third-place finish from as many outings. Apprentice Baylee Northduft knows the daughter of Husson well and the pair should be the ones to side with here. IAMICAN’S last start can be completely ignored. She produced a good comeback run in her penultimate run when finishing second over six furlongs. She is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. Michael Hellyer who was aboard her when she won her maiden is in the saddle today and the pair should pose a threat to the top selection.

Race 7
ENTERPRISE JACK’S form this season has been good with two seconds and two third-place finishes from as many outings. It must be noted that the form of his last race has been franked. Sean Cormack knows him well and he may be rewarded for consistency this afternoon. STAYING BLACK also has good form to his credit and he runs well over this distance with a record of two third-place finishes from three outings. He gets the blinkers re-fitted this afternoon and the headgear should help him keep his mind on the task at hand. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 8
THE WILD ONE was given a 19-week break after a fair latest over the minimum trip at Sunshine Coast. He should not have any issues with regards to fitness as he has had a barrier trial coming into this race. Both of his career victories have come over this distance. Regular pilot Stephanie Thornton rides and the pair should be tough to beat. DON’T DIE WONDERING won her maiden over the minimum trip at Casino last time. She does take on stronger this afternoon, but the daughter of Monashee Mountain is lightly raced and looks to have more to come. Mark Du Plessis rides and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 9
CORAL BAY has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He runs well over this distance with a record of four wins, a second and a third-place finish from fifteen outings. Sheriden Tomlinson who was aboard him when finishing second last time retains the ride and the pair can go one better this afternoon. HOLLABACK GIRL has decent recent form to her credit. She has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts on this course. She ran on well in her last outing and will enjoy the rise to the six furlongs. It must be noted that two horses from her last formline have come out and won since, and she merits healthy respect in this field.

Race 10
GENZAI THE WOLF is lightly raced and has very good form to his name. He followed up his maiden win with a good second place finish over the minimum trip at Sunshine Coast. He returns from a break and has a record of a win and a second-place finish from as many starts in his first run after a break. He gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice and should be tough to beat. TRU BLUE TANGO was just in need of his last outing at Sunshine Coast over the minimum trip. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
