International Racing: Saturday 09 May 2020 – Ascot

International Racing: Thursday 07 May 2020 – Townsville

An exciting nine-race programme is on the cards at Ascot on Saturday. Jockey William Pike may be the man to follow as he has a good book of rides. The best bet on the day is CHARLETON EDDIE who takes his place in Race 2. He has won his last three starts and looks to have some class about him. He is on a different level compared to the rest of the field and should take a power of beating.

Race 1
I HOPE YOU DANCE is still a maiden after fourteen runs, but
she has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She moved up
well in her last start over a mile on this course but found one too good on the
day. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter
of Trade Fair will enjoy the drop in distance as she has finished second once
and third twice from five attempts. William Pike rides from pole position and
the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure today. INTERSTATE has produced four good runs since being given a 37-week break. He set
the pace in his last start over 1675m and was outrun in the closing stages.
That effort suggests that he will enjoy the drop to the seven furlongs. Should
the top choice fluff her lines, the son of War Chant may be the one to pick up
the pieces.
Race 2
CHARLETON EDDIE is the best bet on today’s card and should
take a power of beating. He was ultra-impressive when putting over five lengths
between himself and the second-place finisher in his last start over this
course and distance. It must be noted that the form of that race has been
franked. The son of Shooting To Win is a three time winner from four starts and
looks a class or two above the rest of this field. Patrick Carbery knows him
well and the pair should win this with ease. GHOBELLA is a filly taking
on the males. She has finished second in both her career outings over this
distance at Pinjarra Park. She may find it tough to beat the top selection, but
she gets the services of William Pike and should fill the exacta spot.
Race 3
RESORTMAN was an impressive winner on debut over this
distance at Bunbury. He was given a 17-week break since that outing, during
which time he would have strengthened up. Fitness should not pose an issue this
afternoon as he won both his barrier trials coming into this race. The son of
Helmet looks to have a lot of class about him and jumping from pole position
today, he should keep his unbeaten record intact. PLATINUM BULLET got back
to winning ways in her last start over this course and distance. She loves
racing over this trip having won twice and finished second once from four
attempts. Joseph Azzopardi is likely to ride her from a positive position and
the combination should throw out a big challenge to the top selection.
Race 4
BLANKENBERGE is the value bet on today’s programme. She is
a filly taking on the males but has good consistent form lines to her credit
and she was beaten by the narrowest of margins in her last start over this
course and distance. Her record this season is four wins, a second and three
third place finishes from eleven outings. It is encouraging that jockey William
Pike retains the ride and the combination should find themselves in the
winner’s enclosure. ERISTIC’S last three starts have been very good. He has
won both his starts over this course and distance. 1.5kg claiming apprentice
Jade McNaught knows the son of Hussonet well and should the top selection fluff
her lines, the pair may be the ones to pick up the pieces today.
Race 5
FIRESALE got back to winning ways in his last start
over this distance at Pinjarra Park. He raced from a handy position that day
and finished his race off strongly. The son of Trade Fair has won twice and
finished second once from six attempts over this distance. William Pike takes
the ride for the first time and the combination may be the ones to side with
here. SIR SNUGALOT won a good race in his last start over 1500m
at Albany. The son of Oratorio is having a decent season thus far having won
twice, finishing second once and third twice from twelve outings. He gets the
services of a 3kg claiming apprentice which should help his chances. From his
good draw of two, he merits obvious inclusion.
Race 6
This is an open
Handicap and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is MEGAZONE from the Ashley Maley stable. He was in need of his last two starts after
returning from a 14-week break. He loves racing on this course with a record of
two wins, three seconds and two third place finishes from twelve starts. Jockey
Alan Kennedy has finished third, all three occasions that he has ridden the son
of Eurozone. The combination jumps from a mid-field barrier position and should
fight out the finish. JUICING
CARROTS
has not finished too far
off the winner in recent outings. He has won four times, finished second once
and third four times from seventeen attempts over this distance. His wide
barrier position should not pose much of an issue as he is likely to use his
early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. Craig Staples
knows him well and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 7
This is an exciting
race and the fight to the finish should be between two horses. MASSIMO produced a decent comeback run over the minimum trip on this course. He
will enjoy the step up to the six furlongs as he is unbeaten from two attempts
over this distance. William Pike has a good 28%-win strike rate for trainer
Adam Durrant. From barrier position two, he is likely to notch up his fifth
career victory. BLACK DUCATI was an impressive winner in her last start
over this course and distance, three weeks ago. It must be noted that two
horses from that form line have come out and won since. She too is unbeaten
from two starts over this distance. Chris Parnham has ridden her six times for
three wins and two second place finishes. The daughter of Blackfriars is likely
to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
Race 8
MYSTERY MISS was a tad disappointing in her last start
over nine furlongs on this course. The manner in which she is racing recently
suggests that she is looking for today’s distance. William Pike who has been
aboard the daughter of Animal Kingdom in all six of her wins to date, retains
the ride and the pair will be looking to get back to winning ways. UTGARD LOKI has good consistent form to his name. He loves racing on this course
having won twice, finishing second three times and third once from nine
outings. He too is taking a step up in distance and if seeing out the extra
trip on offer, should pose a big threat to the top selection. Lucy Warwick has
won on her twice, finished second twice and third once from six outings.
Race 9
TOLLMAN has good consistent form lines to his credit.
He was unlucky not to have won his last start as he was seeking running room
until the final 200m before running on strongly in the closing stages. The
manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will enjoy
the rise to the nine furlongs. With a bit of luck in running, the son of Dash
For Cash should be the one they all have to beat. DARK CHOICE is a filly
taking on the boys. Her last two starts on this course have been very good. She
gets the services of 3kg claiming apprentice Chris Graham who has won on her
once and finished third once from three starts. The daughter of Redoute’s
Choice should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
