International Racing: Thursday 07 May 2020 – Townsville

An exciting nine-race programme is scheduled for Morphettville on Saturday. The meeting includes the Group 1 South Australian Derby which is run over 2500m. The best bet on the day is ECUMENICAL in Race 2 which is the Group 3 Tab SA Sires’ Produce Stakes. She is a winner of her last two starts, the latest of which was also in Group 3 company. She is the class horse in the race and will be the one they all have to beat.

Race 1
DIXON STREET is lightly raced and has very good form to
her name. She was ultra-impressive when winning her last start over 1100m at
Gawler. She raced from a handy position that day, hit the lead at the 200m mark
and drew well clear. It must be noted that the form of that race has been
franked. She takes a slight rise in class this afternoon, but she will get the
services of a 2kg claiming apprentice. The daughter of Spirit Of Boom looks
hard to oppose in this line-up.
THE GENERAL’S
last three starts
after returning from a 39-week break have been good. He has won twice and
finished third once from three attempts over this distance. He gets the
services of the capable 2kg claiming apprentice Lachlan Neindorf. The son of
Charm Spirit makes his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track,
he will be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 2 (TAB SA
SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES – Group 3)
ECUMENICAL has the best credentials in this line-up. She
was ultra-impressive when winning the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes over six
furlongs on this course last time. The manner in which she finished off the
race that day suggests that she will enjoy the extra furlong on offer this
afternoon. Ryan Hurdle who has been aboard the daughter of Zebedee in her last
two victories keeps the ride and the pair should notch up the hat-trick. INDICTMENT showed good improvement to finish third in the Anzac Day Stakes, which is
a Listed Race at Flemington, last time. He moved up like a winner that day and
fought hard all the way to the finishing post. It must be noted that the form
of that race has been franked. Jockey Ethan Brown has struck up a good
partnership with this trainer with a 33%-win strike rate. He jumps from a good
barrier position today and should be right there at the finish.
Race 3
ONE MORE JACK is unbeaten this season having won his last
six starts under today’s jockey Justin Potter. He continues to take a rise in
class, but he has tons of ability and handles each task with ease. The son of
Typhon jumps from a mid-field barrier position today and should take a power of
beating. PERFECT COMMAND has good consistent form to his name. He is
yet to be unplaced over this course and distance having won twice, finishing
second twice and third once from as many outings. 1.5kg claiming apprentice
Caitlin Jones has ridden him twice for a second and a third-place finish. From
his good barrier position of two, he should be the one to throw out the biggest
challenge to the top selection.
Race 4
SIDESTREET is a two-time winner from four starts. He
showed good speed in his last start, gave a nice kick at the top of the
straight and kept going well to hold all challengers at bay. It must be noted
that the form of that race has been franked. He makes his course debut this
afternoon and if suited to the track, he should take a power of beating. Dom
Tourneur has ridden him three times for two wins and a second-place finish. ALMADRAVA is a filly taking on the males. She shed her maiden tag in fine style
over 1100m at Gawler last time. She showed good speed that day, kicked well at
the top of the straight and was eased down at the wire. It must be noted that
the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Sebring takes on
stronger company this afternoon, but the manner in which she won last time
suggests there is more to come.
Race 5
This is a competitive
contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is SASUN who has top recent form to his credit. He has had a decent season thus
far having won four times and finishing second three times from thirteen
outings. Emily Finnegan who finished second on him in his last start retains
the ride and from pole position, should be the one to side with here. MANZALA won a good race in his last start over 1722m at Gawler. He raced from a
handy position that day, moved up at the 200m mark and kept going well to hold
all challengers at bay. Jockey John Allen has a 50%-win strike rate for this
trainer. Should the top selection fluff his lines, the son of Poet’s Voice may
be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 6 (ADELAIDE
GUINEAS – Listed)
KOOWEERUP has produced two decent efforts since being given
a 22-week break. She ran on strongly in her last start but may have cost
herself winning as she was hanging in up the straight. The daughter of More
Than Ready won her only outing on this course. She has had the perfect prep
coming into this race and if keeping on a straight line, she should be the one
they all have to beat. GAME
KEEPER
is a winner of his last two
starts. Jockey John Allen has a decent 28%-win strike rate for this trainer.
The son of Fastnet Rock is having his peak run today and it must be noted that
the last time he was having his third run after a rest, he won. From barrier
position eight, he is likely to be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down
to the finishing post and has a good chance of notching up the hat-trick of
wins.
Race 7
DEBT COLLECTOR caught the eye when finishing his comeback
run off strongly over 1050m. He should have finished closer to the winner that
day as he was held up at the 150m mark. The son of Time Thief has won twice,
finished second once and third once from six attempts over this distance. He
gets the blinkers fitted this afternoon which should help him keep his mind on
the task at hand. He should strip a much fitter horse and with apprentice
Lachlan Neindorf taking 2kgs off the back, he should be the one they all have
to beat. TEQUILA TIME was a tad disappointing in his last start
after producing some decent form. He has won once, finished second twice and
third once from five outings over this course and distance. Justin Holder who
has won on him once and finished second once steps back into the saddle today
and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 8 (TAB SOUTH
AUSTRALIAN DERBY – Group 1)
MIYAKE won his last start well over 1900m at
Canterbury. The Chris Waller trained son of Deep Impact will enjoy the step up
to today’s distance. He has won twice and finished second once from six starts
this season. If everything has gone well with his travels, he may be the one
they all have to beat. RUSSIAN
CAMELOT
should be the one to throw
out the biggest challenge to the top choice. He put seven lengths between
himself and the second placed finisher over a mile at Pakenham last time. He
does face his toughest task to date, but he clearly has ability and looks to be
up to the task at hand. Jockey John Allen has a decent 23%-win strike rate for
this trainer. The son of Camelot should have no issues with the rise in
distance and should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 9
SEEMINGLY DISCREET is a winner of her last four starts. She lost
a near hind plate in her last start which makes the victory that much more
encouraging. She is having a phenomenal season having won four times, finishing
second once and third once from six starts. Jockey Jason Holder is unbeaten
from three rides aboard the daughter of Sepoy and he will be looking to keep
that record intact today. ATEN’S last two runs after given a 26-week break
have been good. She was unlucky not to have won her last start as she was
bumped at the gates and held up for a run until the 200m mark. It must be noted
that the form of that race has been franked. She has won twice from three
attempts over this distance. With a bit of luck in running, she may be the one
to throw out the biggest threat to the top choice.
