International Racing: Thursday 07 May 2020 – Pinjarra Park

International Racing: Wednesday 06 May 2020 – Canterbury

A small but very competitive seven-race programme is scheduled for Pinjarra Park on Thursday. There are four short priced favourites in the first four races and they all look hard to beat. The best bet is HIP WIGGLE who runs in Race 1. Her last two starts have been very good. She meets the right field today and looks tough to beat.

Race 1
HIP WIGGLE is a filly taking on the males. Her last two
starts have been good when finishing second and third respectively. The
daughter of Universal Ruler is having her peak run this afternoon and should be
cherry-ripe. This is not the most competitive line-up and she should shed her
maiden tag this afternoon.
BALLADEER
produced some decent form
before given a 24-week break. He has finished second once and third once from
as many attempts over this distance. The son of Poet’s Voice should not have
any issues with regards to fitness as he won his barrier trial coming into this
race. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the
pieces.
Race 2
This is an open
Maiden Plate which could be dominated by the first timers in the race. The
betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. DOUBLE SPICE is an unraced son of Gingerbread Man from the Stephen Miller stable with
Brad Parnham in the saddle. He was a winner of both his barrier trials coming
into this race. It not too green, he may be the one they all have to beat. STUCKINTHEMIDDLE is an unraced son of My Admiration from the
Simon Miller yard. He finished second in his last barrier trial leading into
this race. It is encouraging that jockey William Pike takes the ride this
afternoon and he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top
selection.
Race 3
FREQUENT FRIAR has shown good improvement in his last two
starts on this course. He moved up like a winner in his last start over this
distance, but was caught in the shadow of the post. William Pike has struck up
a good partnership with Adam Durrant with a win strike rate of 28%. The son of
My Admiration is likely to be settled off the speed early and made to mow down
the frontrunners in the run down to the finishing post. RHYTHM STAR is a filly taking on the males. She has not finished too far off the
winner in recent outings. The manner in which she has finished off her recent
runs suggests that she will enjoy the rise to the ten furlongs. Jarrad Noske
does duty aboard the daughter of Blackfriars and the pair merit healthy
respect.
Race 4
SWIFT GONDO showed good improvement in her last start
over seven furlongs at Ascot. She was her own worst enemy that day as she over
raced and in the early stages. It must be noted that jockey William Pike has a
33%-win strike rate for this trainer. If Pike is able to switch her off early,
she should be the one they all have to beat here. KAZKAZI has not finished
too far off the winner in recent outings. He has finished second twice from
three outings on this course. If repeating his penultimate run when finishing
second over 1300m on this track, he should pose a big threat to the top
selection in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 5
AVALON BAY has produced two good runs since being given
a 22-week break. He moved up very well in his last start, but was outrun close
to home. Shaun McGruddy has won once, finished second once and third once from three
starts aboard the son of Ocean Park. He is having his third run after a break
today and should be at peak fitness.
PORPHYRIO
has good consistent form
lines to her credit. She moved up like a winner in her last start, but the
winner fought back well in the end. She has won once and finished second once two
starts on this course. She gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice today
and should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.
Race 6
MICHELLE MA BELLE has not finished too far off the winner in
her last three starts. She set the pace in her last outing over six furlongs
and was picked off in the closing stages. The daughter of Planet Five enjoys
racing on this course having won once and finishing second three times from six
outings. She gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice this afternoon
which should help her cause. ON
RED ALERT’S
last two starts have
been decent. He was touched off in his last start over six furlongs at Bunbury.
Apprentice Kristy Bennett has ridden him once for a win and will be looking to
keep that unbeaten record intact today.
Race 7
WILD FRONT is a winner of his last two starts over this
distance. He is having a good season with a record of three wins and two third
place finishes from nine outings. He runs well for today’s 3kg claiming
apprentice Beaux Banovic-Edwards who has ridden him four times for two wins and
two third place finishes. The pair should find themselves in the winner’s
enclosure once again today. WANNA
BE GOOD
returns from a much needed
17-week break. He is much better than his last two starts suggest and if repeating
his run when finishing second over this distance at Ascot in November last
year, he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
The son of Bel Esprit should have no issues with regards to fitness as he won
his barrier trial coming into this race.
