International Racing: Wednesday 06 May 2020 – Canterbury

A six-race programme greets punters at Leeton this Thursday 7th May 2020. Aside from a fairly straight forward first race where punters shouldn’t have to look past the first two selections, the remainder of the card looks tough and a cautious approach is advised. MAHSINGER should be the best bet on the card, when she lines up in race 5. She will be looking to build on that good latest over the mile and should just about win. See more here.

SUPALUX looks set
for a big performance here after two decent comeback runs this year. The son of
Delago Deluxe is reunited with Tyler Schiller who claims the 1,5kg and after
showing a late surge in both of his last two outings, he will be looking to
overhaul this modest field. The biggest danger comes in the form of market
rival CHAP’S DREAM. The daughter of
Dream Ahead arrives under similar circumstances as the top selection, as she
too lines up for her peak run back after a lengthy absence. With three seconds
from four attempts over this trip, she’s the biggest danger. Of the rest, THUWANNY and LILIERO will need to improve but they look the likeliest to fill
the minor places.
Race 2 – 04:45 –
1050m – Maiden Handicap
Selections: 8 – 1 – 4
– 7 – 6
SOOMAYA needed
her last start when returning for her follow up attempt after that debut run
back in late November. The daughter of Pride Of Dubai showed plenty of early
speed and tired late to finish 4,60 lengths back. She will undoubtedly strip a
lot fitter here and over the slightly reduced trip, she looks the one to beat. FREE LUNCH went a lot closer to winning
when having his comeback run last time, after a similar spell away from racing.
That was in a small field over 900m and he is going to relish the extra this
time. Apprentice Tyler Schiller retains the ride and he should go right into
contention once again. LUBERON is
also just getting going in his career and will be hoping for better underfoot
conditions here, after battling in the heavy-going last time. On his
penultimate run, he can feature here and must go into consideration. SHEEZA MENZIES is still a maiden after
17 course appearances and if repeating her penultimate run over a similar trip,
she could find a minor position.
Race 3 – 05:22 –
1050m – Class 2 Handicap
Selections: 4 – 2 – 1
– 5 – 9
RARE GEM arrives
here on the back of an impressive debut win last month and the 3-year old
daughter of Smart Missile will be looking to follow up here. With scope for
improvement, she looks progressive enough to handle this rise in class and
should have the credentials to win this. CORAZON
DE ORO is going to relish this drop
back in trip after that latest effort over 1300m didn’t suit her style of
running. That was after an encouraging victory in her penultimate start with a
hefty 66,5kg on her back. She returns to Class 2 level here and looks set for a
big performance. HAPPY LAD has been
very competitive before that modest last start in a BM58 handicap. He went very
close to winning over a similar trip three runs back and on that run deserves
inclusion. ASTIR seems to be
gradually improving and he looks set to go into contention now. The slight drop
in trip will suit his handy running style and he should be involved in the
finish here.
Race 4 – 05:57 – 1600m
– BM58 Handicap
Selections: 3 – 2 – 7
– 1 – 5
BRAVDO LASS
reverts to a course where she has enjoyed a fair amount of success, having
landed four wins from her fourteen attempts. Her record at this course also
suggests she enjoys running here. After a modest effort against slightly
stronger last time out, the daughter of Zariz steps back up to the mile where
she won in her penultimate run. A repeat of that effort should make her a tough
horse to beat. KAPOVER should enjoy
stepping back up to this trip for her fourth start this year. She hasn’t been
too far off the action in recent times, but she is going to relish stepping
back up to a trip where she has featured in the first three places on four
occasions from her six attempts. From a decent draw she has the credentials to
go into contention. MADDIE’S THE BOSS
and PITTSBURGH both need to improve
to have a winning chance, but they should be able to find the places.
Race 5 – 06:37 –
1600m – Class 1 & Maiden Plate
Selections: 10 – 3 –
7 – 9 – 12
MAHSINGER has
returned to racing this year with three good performances, culminating with a
very good effort last time out. She sat off the pace on that occasion but
finished off nicely to improve position late. That was when stepping up to the
mile and she lands a plum draw once again for what looks like an inevitable
second career win for the daughter of Al Maher. SMART AIN’T HE clearly enjoyed the step up to this trip last time
out, when staying on strongly in the closing stages to finish third. The son of
Smart Missile has gate 9 to overcome in his attempt to improve on that last
run, but he has the gate speed to go handy and he can feature here. MISS MATRIARCH did well to hold on to
third in her latest effort, when stepping up to the 1400m. She is yet to
feature in three attempts over the mile, but with a handy weight to shoulder
she can be involved this time.  TOUGH DECISION seems to be on the improve and if overcoming draw 10, the
4-year old son of So You Think can go into contention.
Race 6 – 07:12 –
1150m – BM50 Handicap
Selections: 3 – 1 – 5
– 2 – 6

SIZZLEONTHEBRIDGE has faced slightly stronger in his last three
starts and he is going to enjoy this slight drop to a trip where he has picked
up three wins from seven attempts so far. The 3kg claiming Heni Ede takes the
ride this time and he should present some nice value for punters, in a
wide-open race. ASHRAD has featured
prominently in his two starts since leaving the maidens. He showed up well last
time out when having his first outing this year and a fitter horse this time
around will bring him right into contention. He has scope for more improvement
and must be considered a big threat. OUR
SWEET LOVE
and ORIGINAL PRANKSTER
are both on the brink of another big performance and must be included.
