International Racing: Thursday 09 April 2020 – Pakenham

International Racing: Monday 05 April 2020 – Ballarat

An open looking eight-race programme is scheduled for Pakenham on Thursday. The best bet on the night is BAYVISTA who is in Race 4. She has produced three very good runs to date and should get it right this evening under James Winks.

Race 1
DOES IT produced a promising debut effort when
finishing third over seven furlongs at Geelong. He raced four wide that day,
but ran on well up the straight. The son of Pins tries the mile and the manner
in which he finished off his race on debut suggests this trip should be right
up his alley. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the
one they all have to beat.
REDWOOD RISING
made the natural
progression to finish third in his last outing over this course and distance.
He stayed on well at the finish after racing from a handy position that day. It
must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If confirming his
recent improvement, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

Race 2
DESIGNER CHEF made a promising debut when finishing
runner-up over this course and distance. He settled near the rear of the field
and made up some good ground up the straight. The son of Master Of Design would
have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he
has a good chance of going one better. LAYBUY has produced two
decent efforts over 1300m thus far. He didn’t get the best of starts last time,
but the manner in which he finished off his race was good. It must be noted
that four horses from that formline have come out and won since. Should the top
selection fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 3
OUR GUARDIAN ANGEL has shown good improvement in her last two
starts. She was returning from a 15 week break last time when running on well
at the finish. She steps up to the seven furlongs for the first time which
should be right up her alley. She should strip a much fitter horse this
afternoon and should be the one they all have to beat. STRATESSA produced a flat run last time after a good comeback run in her
penultimate effort. She is having her peak run this afternoon and should be
cherry-ripe for today’s race. Her regular pilot Damien Thornton retains the
ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 4
BAYVISTA has produced three very good runs to date and
is the best bet on today’s programme. He raced from a handy position last time
and challenged all the way to the line before going down by just 0.75 lengths. He
is suited to this distance and in this field, should be very hard to beat. CHIPPEWA SQUARE is an unraced son of Jakkalberry with top
jockey Craig Williams doing duty. He does have a wide barrier position to
overcome on debut, but he will get all the necessary assistance from the
saddle. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 5
BEYOND MARS was an impressive winner on debut over this
type of distance at Geelong. He set the pace that day, gave a nice kick at the
300m mark and kept going well for the victory. He does take on much stronger
this afternoon, but the manner in which he won suggests there is more to come
from the son of Needs Further. Michael Dee retains the ride which is
encouraging. CHIEF ALTONY made the natural improvement second time out
to win over six furlongs on this course. He does take a rise in class today,
but he is lightly raced and looks to be progressive. Arron Lynch remains in the
saddle and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing
post.

Race 6
TALENTED returned to best form when winning her last
start over 1300m at Sandown. That was her first run back from a 20 week
lay-off. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is
having her second run after a rest today and should strip a much fitter horse.
It is encouraging that Beau Mertens retains the ride this afternoon. NECESSARY has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She raced from
a handy position last time and stayed on well at the business end of the race.
Her record over this distance is good with two wins and three second place
finishes from seven attempts. She has a good chance of getting her consistency
rewarded this afternoon.

Race 7
RAPIDORA has not finished too far behind the winner in
recent outings. She got within half a length of the winner last time but had to
check at the 100m mark which cost her winning. She has a good record over this
distance with a win, two seconds and a third-place finish from seven outings.
Michael Dee retains the ride and the pair should find themselves in the
winner’s enclosure with a bit of luck in running. DAUGHTER IN LAW needed her
last run after returning from a lengthy 30-week break. She tries the six
furlongs for the first time and should strip a much fitter horse today. She
should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 8

RECKONING
didn’t have much luck
when racing in the Listed Bendigo Guineas last time. He over raced in the early
stages of the race, did it the hard way racing four wide around the turn and
basically didn’t have much luck at all. He won his penultimate start over seven
furlongs in this class, under today’s jockey, Noel Callow. With a bit of luck
in running, he should be the one to cause the upset.
RUSSIAN
CAMELOT
has produced two good runs since winning on debut.
He took on slightly stronger in both those outings and drops in class today. He
is having his second run after a rest and should strip a much fitter horse.
Damien Oliver knows him very well which is a plus.
