International Racing: Wednesday 06 May 2020 – Ascot

International Racing: Tuesday 05 May 2020 – Bundaberg

A competitive eight-race programme is scheduled for Ascot on Wednesday. The best bet comes in Race 4 in the form of STELLA DOOR. He was an impressive maiden winner in his last start, but the manner in which he won suggests there is more to come. William Pike retains the ride and the pair should be hard to beat today.

Race 1
JAKESTAR is the value bet on today’s programme. He
was allowed to do his own thing in front when shedding his maiden tag last time
over 1300m at Pinjarra Park. The son of Universal Ruler does take on stronger
opposition today, but he is lightly raced and looks progressive. It is
encouraging that jockey William Pike retains the ride this afternoon. He is
likely to race on the speed once again and may be hard to peg back in the
closing stages. FUHRER has finished mid-field in his last two
starts in Listed company. It must be noted that the form of his last race has been
franked. He has finished second in his only start over this distance and it is
encouraging that Mitchell Pateman steps back into the saddle today. The son of
Universal Ruler takes a drop-in class today and merits healthy respect.
Race 2
MIYAGI produced a promising debut effort when
finishing third over six furlongs at Pinjarra Park. She raced from a handy
position that day and stayed on well at the finish. The daughter of Universal
Ruler was understandably very green and she would have gained from the
experience. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one
they all have to beat.
KISSONALLFORCHEEKS
made the natural
progression when improving to finish second in her first run after 22 weeks off
the track. It is interesting that the blinkers get removed for the first time
today, but she should strip a much fitter horse and may be the one to throw out
the biggest challenge to the top choice.
Race 3
NEW AMSTERDAM is an unraced son of Trade Fair from the Adam
Durrant stable with jockey William Pike doing duty. His last two barrier trials
coming into this race have been good and if not too green, may get his career
off to a winning start. The betting market will be the best guide with regards
to his chances. MY BLUEBOY is still a maiden after twelve runs, but he
has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has finished
second once and third once from three starts over this distance. Jockey Chris
Parnham knows the son of Henry Hughes well and the pair should be right there
in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 4
STELLA DOOR is the best bet on today’s card. He had
everything go his way in his last start as he sat in the box seat, took over
the lead at the 150m mark and got away from the rest of the field. The son of
Universal Ruler takes a rise in class today, but he doesn’t meet the strongest
of fields and it is encouraging that William Pike retains the ride. From his
handy draw of five, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure. OXBRIDGE won his maiden at the third time of asking over a similar distance at
Albany. He takes a step up in Grade today, but he is lightly raced and looks to
have a lot of scope about him. Brodie Kirby knows him well and the pair should
be the leading contenders for the placings.
Race 5
IRRITABLE RODNEE just got up to win his maiden at the second
time of asking over this course and distance. He raced from a handy position,
took over the lead at the 125m mark and held off all challengers. It must be
noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a rise in class
today, but he looks progressive and should have more to come. Jockey Shaun Mc
Gruddy knows him well and the pair merit healthy respect. SON OF THE SUN won his maiden at the sixteenth time of asking. He is likely to race on
the speed again this afternoon and with Mitchell Pateman retaining the ride,
the pair may be hard to peg back in the closing stages.

Race 6
WESTERN KING got back to winning ways in his last start
over nine furlongs on this course. He ran on well down the inside rail that day
under a driving ride from William Pike who gave the son of Animal Kingdom a
masterful ride. He has drawn pole position today and with Pike retaining the
ride, the pair have a good chance of notching up their fourth career victory
together. STAFFORD’S LAD is slowly returning back to best form. He has
won once, finished second twice and third twice from ten outings over this
distance. Jarrad Noske knows the son of Demerit well and the pair should be the
ones to pick up the pieces should the top choice fluff his lines.
Race 7
This is a
competitive contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is PETTICOAT JUNCTION from the Justin Warwick yard. She got back to
winning ways in her last start over this course and distance. She relished a
decent tempo, ran on strongly and drew clear at the 150m mark. Natasha
Faithfull knows the daughter of My Admiration well and if repeating her latest
effort, she can notch up a quick double. EVERYMILE A MEMORY has not
got the most consistent form, but on her day, she can win in a field of this
nature. She has won once and finished second twice from five attempts over this
distance. Shaun O’Donnell has ridden her once for a win and he will be looking
to remain unbeaten aboard the daughter of Choisir.
Race 8
TRIGGERFISH has not finished too far off the winner in
recent outings. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts
over this distance. If continuing his good run of form, he may be rewarded for
consistency this afternoon. NEXT
STOP THE MOON’S
last three starts
have been decent. He has won twice, finished second twice and third once from
seven attempts over this distance. He gets the services of 3kg claiming
apprentice Chris Graham who has finished second aboard the son of Celtus in the
past. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one that will pick
up the pieces.
