Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: SHORT CUT (2)

Jockey: Domeyer A – Trainer: Botha P

SHORT CUT is one of the better bets on today’s card. He stayed on when finishing third in a workriders race last time. The son of Pathfork looks to be a progressive type and with Aldo Domeyer in the saddle, he should be the one to side with.

Race 3: CAPTAIN WHO (5)
Jockey: Domeyer A – Trainer: Marcus A

CAPTAIN WHO produced a promising debut effort over six furlongs on this course. He was bumped at the start, but finished his race off well. The son of Captain Al will enjoy the step up in trip and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should shed his maiden tag.

TOP BET FOR TODAY

Race 7: PRAY FOR RAIN (1)

Jockey: Veale S – Trainer: Drier D

PRAY FOR RAIN is the best bet on today’s card. He set the pace in the Umkhomazi Stakes last time and stayed on in the latter stages. He returns from a 13-week break today, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Soft Falling Rain has won once over this C&D and if not in need of the run, he should be the one to beat.

Race 8: MR COBBS (1)

Jockey: Domeyer A – Trainer: Bass-Robinson

MR COBBS’ last two starts have been good. He has won once, finished second twice and third twice from eight starts over this distance. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Aldo Domeyer knows him well and the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

Race 6: BEREAVE (7)
Jockey: Cheyne G – Trainer: Marcus A

BEREAVE just won on debut over 1200m on this course. He lost a length at the start that day, but got up where it matters most. It must be noted that the form of that race has worked out well. The manner in which he finished off his debut effort suggests he will enjoy the extra distance on offer. He takes on stronger today, but could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.
