Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 3: LA FLAMBEE(12)

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Adam MARCUS

LA FLAMBEE went off at long-odds when she produced an impressive c & d debut. The daughter of Windrush quickly recovered from a slow start to show excellent speed before being outrun late by a dual subsequent winner who is headed for the tops. The Adam Marcus inmate hasn’t raced for 20 weeks since but her conditioner has obviously taken plenty of time with her and she could develop into a really smart sort. The bay filly would have strengthened during the winter and she could have heaps of impro- vement to come. The half-sister to the classy Reim has enough speed to overcome her unfavourable draw and she should go close.

Race 5: ILLUMINATOR(4)
Jockey: Heavelon v/d HOVEN – Trainer: Glen PULLER

ILLUMINATOR already looks a bright prospect and he was super-impressive when he produced a powerful finish to win his debut going away in a big field over this c & d, nine weeks ago. He was unfancied in the betting market that day, suggesting there is plenty of improvement to come from the son of Trippi who will again enjoy a 4kgs apprentice claim. He takes a steep rise in class but could be equal to the task and is one to follow.

Race 6: OUR ICON(10)
Jockey: Gareth WRIGHT – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

The lightly weighted and raced four-year old colt OUR ICON has been thrown into the deep-end in just his fifth career outing. He seems to be plagued with issues but is loaded with class and that was evident when he produced a late burst to get up and win his comeback run over ten furlongs on his handicap debut, despite a huge mass of 61kgs. Admittedly, he takes a steep rise in class but will be fitter and clearly has plenty more to offer. The son of Dynasty could make his light mass count and is worth following during the summer.

Race 8: CAPTAIN AMERICA(1)

Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

CAPTAIN AMERICA clearly enjoyed his Highveld stint as he pulverized a Grade 1 field over a mile in yielding conditions at Turffontein in the Autumn. He seems to have unfortunately suffered a setback and missed the KZN winter campaign as a result. However, the top class Captain Al gelding is gearing up for a ‘big’ summer and he is well treated at the weights in this pinnacle stakes. He is unbeaten from two c & d efforts and despite the fact that he won’t be fully tuned-up, his class should carry him through.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: CHANUKAH(1)
Jockey: Anthony ANDREWS – Trainer: Greg ENNION

CHANUKAH has shown some useful recent form and she may have failed to see out the mile behind two highly rated youngsters, ten days ago. Her conditioner has wasted little time in dropping her in trip and the lightly raced five-year old has more scope for improvement. She was outrun late into a close 2nd behind GEORGEOUS GABY over this trip in her penultimate start and now meets that rival on 1kg better terms. The drop in distance could make all the difference for the top rating.
