National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders’ Novices’ Chase Preview
Abundant stamina reserves are required to win this and if OK CORRAL gets the trip under top Corinthian Derek O’Connor he is going to be very hard to beat.
The JP McManus-owned gelding is a big unit that lobs along in his races and has looked very much in love with racing especially when strolling home on good ground at Warwick.
I just wonder if the forecast rain arrives and this turns into a slog, will Nicky Henderson’s charge be able to get home up the final Hill as he stretches out another 1400m on the distance ladder ?
I think in an open race the Each Way value lies with DISCORAMA whose trainer Paul Nolan is adept at getting one ready for this meeting. The six-year-old ran well over hurdles at the 2018 Festival when having a lot to do and is unlucky not to have prevailed in two of his three starts since having his attention turned to fences this season.
JERRYSBACK was a more than useful novice over hurdles before getting injured and has gradually warmed to his new role as a chaser to suggest with a clear round he can have a say.
BALLYWARD is fresh into this off a selective campaign and takes the Mullins factor to post while IMPULSIVE STAR has an identical profile, is improving and will almost certainly stay.
