Newmarket Best Bets Sunday

Race 1 No2 EASTERN WORLD
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick

EASTERN WORLD has been unlucky to run into a couple of hotpots but it must be doubtful there’s anything of the class of Starcat or King Leonidas taking him on in this opening maiden. The Dubawi colt looked in good order in his winding up gallop for this and can outpoint Lawahed.

Race 2 No3 POWER OF DARKNESS
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: Martin Dwyer

This is a hot Class 2, and while respect is afforded to Alfred Boucher the vote goes to POWER OF DARKNESS who impresses me as a likely improver. His bountiful 2019 season was cut short after successes Salisbury and Ascot but he’s shown in the past that he’s very effective when fresh.

Race 4 No1 CONCESSIONS
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Ryan Moore

The Listed Empress Stakes can see CONCESSIONS remaining unbeaten. She created a good impression when scoring on debut at Chelmsford in January and was strongly fancied for a good distaffers’ prize from which she was taken out. She faces strong competition from Time Scale and Undertake but is definitely the value option.

WINDSOR

Race 1 No7 ROOSTER
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Sean Levey

With a couple of promising runs under his belt, ROOSTER can prove the cock of the walk in this maiden. He ran respectably in a hot debut at Newmarket behind Eye Of Heaven that has worked out, then went down in a photo over today’s course and distance. This speedily-bred individual is now in the right place from which to deliver.

Race 3 No2 HOT SUMMER
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Sean Levey

HOT SUMMER twice rattled the crossbar in his juvenile season and showed better form on turf. Some crabbed his attitude when turned over at a shade of odds-on at Ffos Las but nine months down the line this is a new ball game for the Hot Streak colt who has the best form and can open his account.

Race 4 No2 CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Rob Hornby

Hornby clicked with CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD over this course and distance a fortnight ago and off a 6lb higher mark the combination can follow up. The Slade Power gelding took time to recapture his initial promise, but judging from the way he decisively put that race to bed, he seems to have turned the corner.

Race 9 No4 MAIDEN CASTLE (Nap)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: David Probert

Though no match for Quickthorn on handicap debut at Kempton, MAIDEN CASTLE can now put it altogether, with the first-time hood he sported that day dispatched with. While not without his issues, he’s got plenty of talent and a big engine.
