Neil Morrice brings you all of his best bets and tips for Tuesday’s racing coming your way from Newcastle and Southwell.
NEWCASTLE
NEWCASTLE (Nap)
Trainer: James Moffatt – Jockey: Charlotte Jones
BURBANK
was always a very decent worker at his previous stable and so it was not the
biggest surprise when he took out a jumper-bumper on debut for his new
connections at Newcastle. He faces a potent threat from Not That Fuisse but
with the benefit of his rider’s 7lb claim can follow-up.
Race 8 No10 TEA CLIPPER
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: Jonathan Burke
Prolific hurdles scorer TEA CLIPPER goes into this new discipline as the winner of four of his six outings under Rules. He’s enjoyed a freshening break since a below-par effort at Newbury but is well capable of bouncing back.
SOUTHWELL
Race 2 No7 DISCOMATIC
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert
Although putting in one of his less engaging runs at Kempton last time, DISCOMATIC can put his best foot forward on this first outing on the deeper Fibresand surface. His previous form stands up to close inspection, and he can surprise likely market leader Carrothers.
Race 3 No7 NICK VEDDER (Nap)
Trainer: Robyn Brisland – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark
Unlucky not be be unbeaten in his last four outings, NICK VEDDER sneaked home when confidently ridden here a fortnight ago. The seven-year-old benefitted from scoring by a small margin and with plenty of pace coming from Samovar, he should have things set up for his strong finish.
Race 6 No1 DEFENCE TREATY
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Tony Hamilton
Thrave isn’t the same force of old and could be a false favourite, leaving DEFENCE TREATY as the value option. The selection has three-quarters of a length to find with his rival on last month’s running here but he’s better off at the revised weights, while his opponent has been soundly beaten in a subsequent outing.
