WETHERBY

Race 3 No8 UNIT SIXTYFOUR (Each Way)

Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Nico de Boinville

This stable must always be respected with its runners here and for value UNIT SIXTYFOUR might be the way to go in an open race. He showed ability in his second and final run in an Irish point, and has subsequently been operated on for a wind ailment, making his first appearance under Rules more fascinating.

Race 6 No7 LITTLE RED LION (Nap)

Trainer: David Pipe – Jockey: Fergus Gillard

Hat-trick seeking LITTLE RED LION did us a favour at Taunton, showing gritty determination to fend off Broadclyst. He’d put in an identical performance to deny Colonel Keating on his previous start at Lingfield, and by not winning by big margins the handicapper is unable to severely treat him.

NEWCASTLE

Race 4 No7 VENTUROUS

Trainer: David Barron – Jockey: Tom Marquand

It’s taken VENTUROUS a long time to realise his potential, but with three wins from his last four starts for a master trainer of sprinters, he has to be of serious interest in this conditions race. Marquand defends a one race unbeaten record on the gelding that can remain intact.

Race 5 No4 VINTAGER

Trainer: Simon Crisford – Jockey: Jack Mitchell

A fascinating feature can fall to VINTAGER, who looks to strike while the iron’s hot after scoring on debut for his trainer at Chantilly last week. The Godolphin cast off is the winner of three of his last four races and clearly as good as ever. He faces strong competition from Ummalnar and Bless Him, but is in the mood to dispatch those rivals.

Race 7 No4 POWER OF TIME (Each Way)

Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Cam Hardie

If there’s a plot in this tricky looking affair then POWER OF TIME is one to apply a market check. The Galileo gelding is another remnant from the Godolphin empire that may well benefit from a change of scenery based on a promising first effort for his new trainer at this course. That midfield finish behind Duel In The Sun earned him a ticket to go down the handicap route, as is the case this evening.

LINGFIELD PARK

Race 1 No5 ACCOMPLICE (Nap)

Trainer: Michael Blanshard – Jockey: David Probert

The strong travelling ACCOMPLICE is a credit to her trainer, and while requiring luck in running is in the mood to back up a beautifully timed conversion over course and distance from her revised mark. She’s well drawn to occupy a similar stalking role, and can swoop in the short home straight.

Race 2 No1 SAVE THE SPIRIT

Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Adam Kirby

Yorkshire raider SAVE THE SPIRIT can prove a journeyman worth siding with even though he has to concede a stone to the distaffers in the field, including a dangerous opponent in Rainbow’s Pony. He battled well to inch home at Newcastle, and as that was only his second appearance on the track there should be further room for improvement.

Race 7 No8 DECORA (Each Way)

Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: George Bass

Conduit filly DECORA is a longstanding maiden but worth an interest on debut for the West stable. That trainer has a good records with cast-offs from Mick Channon, while upwardly mobile apprentice Bass knows has ridden his mount both on the track and at home.
