POOL DRAWS – FAQS
What is a Durban July Pool draw?
- A pool draw is where all the horses running in the Durban July are put into a hat.
- People enter the competition to draw a horse out of the hat by paying a set fee to take part
- Whoever’s horse wins the race, wins the pool
- Example, if 18 people enter at R10 each, then the winner gets R180
What happens if I don’t have 18 people?
- Allow people to buy more than one entry.
- Therefore if the entry fee is R10, and someone pays R30, they can then draw 3 horses.
- If not all the horses are taken in the draw, then the highest finishing horse wins the pool.
How does one run a Durban July Pool Draw at work?
- Get one person to facilitate the draw.
- This person will prepare the draw, collect the money, and record which person draws which horse
- They will print 2 copies of the Vodacom Durban July cut out by clicking here: http://bit.ly/2IRDovX
- Use 1 copy to cut out each of the horses and put horses 1 to 18 in a hat (remove horses 19 and 20 as they are reserve runners)*
- Use the other copy to record who draws which horse
How does one enter a draw?
- People pay an equal amount to enter the pool draw (for example R10)
- Once you have paid you can pull a horse out of the hat
- Don’t tell anyone which horse you have until everyone has drawn a horse
- Once the draw is done, everyone reveals which horse they have, and the facilitator records this on the other copy you printed
- Whoever’s horse wins the race, wins the pool! If 18 people enter at R10 each, then the winner gets R180!
What happens if my horse is scratched?
- If someone’s horse is scratched, they can then be given one of the reserve runners
- If there are no reserve runners, then they get their money back
When is the Durban July?
