Hollywoodbets has raised the bar in advance of the bumper Cape Town Met day to be held on Saturday 30 January 2021. We are offering the single biggest competition prize pool in South African horseracing – a sensational R10 million to the player or players who can select the winners of the twelve races on the high-quality card in the popular “Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge”.
With a proud history dating back to the latter part of the 19th century, the race was first run as the Metropolitan Mile in 1873. The R1 million Gr1 Cape Town Met has evolved into an internationally recognised weight-for-age contest that pits the nation’s best in a no-holds barred battle over the classic Kenilworth 2000m, and presents a fitting climax and much-prized pinnacle to the Cape’s Summer Season.
The current big race favourite is Justin Snaith’s Vodacom Durban July winner Belgarion, who ran an excellent prep in the recent L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate. But Saturday’s unique 2021 edition is regarded as one of the most competitive in years, and it won’t be a cakewalk for the son of Dynasty.
In a show of confidence in South African horseracing, coupled with a concerted effort to embrace the punter and attract a new generation into the arena of thrills and excitement (usually reserved for the on-course participants on a great day of racing), Hollywoodbets has offered an extraordinary R10 million total prize pool to the player/s who successfully tip the winner of all twelve races on the Kenilworth card.
The R10 million is being offered over and above the guaranteed R200 000 must-be-won prize, which will be shared amongst the top 50 finishers. The overall winner on the final standings log after the twelfth race of the day, will be awarded a not-to-be-snuffed-at R100 000!
The Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge has already proven a big winner in KwaZulu-Natal, where a record 12 617 players participated at the Hollywoodbets Scottsville meeting last Sunday.
It is expected that in excess of 20 000 existing and new fans will join in the challenge on Met Day, as inexperienced players enjoy the adrenaline-fuelled thrills of taking on the seasoned veterans, on a level playing field.
The competition’s scoring structure rewards innovation and consistency, and players can also follow their progress, and the fluctuating fortunes of their opponents, in real-time on the race day – without actually laying out a cent!
Free online entries for the special Met Day edition of the Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge will open on Thursday 28 January at midnight. Only one entry is permitted per Hollywoodbets account-holder and participants are able to amend their selections right up until closing time of 11h45 on Saturday.
For those new to the concept, why not register and get in some ‘nets practice’ at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday, where a bonus prize of R1 150 000 is on the line, with a guaranteed R10 000 up for grabs for the Top 20 finishers, and R4 000 for the overall winner.
