ZAVIAH showed very good improvement in his last start over 2400m at the Vaal. He should have finished closer that day as he was cramped for galloping room at the 200m mark. The son of Twice Over looks progressive and he can go one better here.

SECOND BASE ran a decent race in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Gimmethegreenlight returns from a well-deserved 14-week break which would have done him the world of good. He has won three times from four starts on this course. He is a classy sort and should be too good for this field.

EASTERN BELLE should have finished closer last time as she hung from the 300m mark. Her penultimate run when finishing second over 1160m on the Standside course catches the eye. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. Warren Kennedy retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
