Kempton Best Bet

Race 8 – No 6 LAPIDARY
Trainer: Heather Main
Jockey: Mark Dwyer

LAPIDARY doesn’t appear to have been given a tough task on her handicap debut in this fillies’ only contest. Both her runs this year have suggested she’s improving and when scoring over six furlongs at Lingfield she was gaminess personified in fighting back to land the spoils after being headed. And while she’s short on experience she is more likely to find improvement than the majority of her foes.

Ripon Best Bets

Race 4 – No 6 PIPERS NOTE
Trainer: Ruth Carr
Jockey: Joe Garrity

Given that he has a fine record at this course, PIPERS NOTE will be a value proposition in a wide open heat and can upstage a couple of in form rivals. The 9yo is the joint oldest in the field but after looking a shade unlucky in his last two starts he can get into the argument. Interestingly the race is run in honour of David Chapman, the late father of Pipers Note’s trainer.

Race 7 – No 7 DEW POND
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: Duran Fentiman

Hold up horse DEW POND put in a slightly disappointing run at this course last time but nevertheless didn’t finish far out of the money and is interesting in this, getting weight from each of his six rivals. He’s a strong traveller that needs to be delivered late, while his good record in small fields also augers well for him.

Windsor Best Bets

Race 2 – No 8 MILD ILLUSION
Trainer: Jonathan Portman
Jockey: Ron Hornby

With two cracking runs under her belt it will take a smart one to stop MILD ILLUSION opening her account. She got a good sighting of this course and distance when finishing fast behind Mitty’s Smile the other day. In hindsight she may have been given a tad too much to do and it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see her ridden more prominently.

Race 5 – No 1 WHISPERING BEAUTY
Trainer: William Haggas
Jockey: John Egan

WHISPERING BEAUTY has the points on the board in this fillies’ novice stakes courtesy of a hard fought first success at Newmarket. A penalty for that neck success over Loving Glance will make life harder but she does look a lot better than the other fillies with public form to their names, and will be very hard to beat.

Carlisle Best Bets

Race 5 – No 8 PICKETT’S CHARGE
Trainer: Brian Ellison
Jockey:Megan Nicholls

An interesting jockey booking for PICKETT’S CHARGE who carried my vote when caught in the final couple of strides at Beverley last week. The money came for him on that occasion and as a horse that has improved from race to race this season he now seems cherry ripe to go one better.

Race 7 – No 5 BREATHABLE
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: Miss E Easterby

There’s no surprise to to the Easterbys trying to strike while the iron is still hot by running recent Pontefract scorer BREATHABLE under a penalty. The 4yo took a keen grip but still had a lot to give on the climb to the line, storming four and a half lengths clear of Vintage Rose. Blessed with a decent draw and hailing from a very much in form stable, a follow-up is on the cards.
