UK Racing Best Bets – Monday 9 September

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at Newton Abbot, Perth, Brighton and Wolverhampton on Monday 9 September 2019.

Newton Abbot Best Bets

Race 1: ROCOCO RIVER (2)

Trainer: Mrs Jane Williams
Jockey: Lizzie Kelly

This is a good track for front runners and ROCOCO RIVER should be right at home winging round the tight turns. The lightly-raced 5yo impressed on his reappearance to survive  a mistake two out before coming home unchallenged. He carries a 6lb penalty for that, but Lizzie Kelly’s 3lb claim slightly eradicates it.

Race 6: SIZING TARA (1)
Trainer: Colin Tizzard
Jockey: Harry Cobden

The majority of these handicap hurdles like to be held up which means SIZING TARA has a good chance of getting into an easy lead. The top weight gets the assist of Harry Kimber’s 10lb claim and can benefit from a round of controlled front running, as he was way too free on his latest start at Fontwell and ran out of steam.

Perth Best Bets

Race 4: INDIAN TEMPLE (1)
Trainer: Tim Reed
Jockey: Harry Reed

Course specialist INDIAN TEMPLE has been in good form both over fences and hurdles and can make this a third win from just five outings this year. He landed the feature chase of the summer season here before failing to cope with Braid Blue back over hurdles in July. Returning to fences here, he can prove a tough entity to peg back.

Race 5: DUCK EGG BLUE (3)
Trainer: Liam Bailey
Jockey: John Kington

There’s a possibility that DUCK EGG BLUE will refuse to race as he’s failed to come out of the stalls in three of his last four races on the Flat. However, running over hurdles at Southwell he was well behaved and ran out a deserving winner. With just two jumps runs to his name he us unexposed and open to plenty of improvement.

Brighton Abbot Best Bets

Race 1: KNOCKABOUT QUEEN (7)
Trainer: Tony Carroll
Jockey: Kieran Fox

The winning form of KNOCKABOUT QUEEN in sellers could be good enough to see her notch a second course and distance triumph in the space of a week. She certainly looked to have bundles in hand when coming home unchallenged on that latest start. She shoulders a 6lb penalty, but in current mood will be hard to beat.

Race 5: LONG CALL (8)
Trainer: Tony Carroll
Jockey: Tom Marquand

Also boasting recent course and distance winning form, LONG CALL can make it a double for the Carroll stable as that defeat of Alnadir was in a higher grade, while he competes from a mark just 2lb higher. Tom Marquand gave the selection a copybook ride and is back in the saddle.

Wolverhampton Best Bets

Race 2: SAY IT SIMPLE (13)
Trainer: Richard Fahey
Jockey: Tony Hamilton

With the benefit of an encouraging debut behind her, SAY IT SIMPLE is the logical bet to prove too strong for the beautifully-bred newcomer Desert Safari. The selection did nothing wrong when chasing home Galadriel over five furlongs at Beverley and should relish today’s furlong longer trip.

Race 7: COURT ORDER (2)
Trainer: James Tate
Jockey: PJ McDonald

In what looks a weak maiden COURT ORDER holds the cards. He encountered heavy ground on his Nottingham debut and now switches to the all-weather over a far longer trip, but given the improvement, he is expected to make and the lack of strong opposition, this looks a very good opportunity for him.
