Race 5

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either, or both, should be respected. Of the raced runners, SIR TOM may prove to be the best. He has consistent formlines to his name, finishing third in his last two runs, the latest over six furlongs, just over a length and a half behind the winner. The gelding raced four wide without cover that day, but still managed to finish off his race well. He does have a wideish draw eight, but he is likely to turn in another honest performance today.

ICE KAT stayed on well when finishing fourth on debut over six furlongs, three lengths back from the winner. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected and from a handy gate two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

SIDENAY is seldom far off the action and raced just behind the leader when finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, just under two and a half lengths back from the winner. The gelding has a useful draw four and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

SHIFFRIN showed solid improvement in her last two outings, winning her maiden race in her latest start over six furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. She lost a length at the start that day but finished strongly over the closing stages and the form of that race has been franked. She has her peak run after returning from a 17-week rest and gets a cosy gate three.
BORROWED LUCK stayed on well despite shifting out in the home straight when ending up in seventh place last time out over six furlongs 2,7L off the victor. She will have to negotiate a wide draw ten, but she should not be easily overlooked.

NEPHRADIVA raced just behind the leaders and then battled all the way down to the wire when finishing fourth in her latest outing over five furlongs, just over three lengths adrift of the winner. She has her peak run for her new trainer after returning from a 21 week break and from a kinder gate two, she should turn in another solid effort here.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, KEIKOKU had to be held up on the home turn, before finishing well to end up in fourth place last time out over five furlongs, 1.3K behind the winner. He has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here. The gelding will also get the cheek pieces fitted and whilst drawn the widest of them all in gate sixteen, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

IRON HAT won over five furlongs three runs back, finished a disappointing twelfth in his penultimate start over 1100M and then fifth in his latest outing over five furlongs, when returning from a 19-week spell, just under three lengths behind the winner, but it should be noted that he lost a length at the start in that event, but finished well from some way back. From his kinder gate six and with him having 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

DEMEURER has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fourth over five furlongs, 1.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 27-week absence. He was slow away on that occasion but finished off his race well over the latter stages. He will have to overcome a wide draw 13, but he should be doing his best work late.

Race 8

GOLDEN GATE is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her credit, finishing powerfully to end up in fifth spot last time out over 1300M, just under two lengths behind the winner. She gets blinkers fitted for the first time and from a useful draw five, she could prove hard to topple. As such, she is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

PAR FIVE found himself in last place approaching the home turn and was forced to come the widest of them all into the straight and notwithstanding hanging in in the dash down to the wire, he finished fourth over the six furlongs, just under two and a half lengths behind the winner. The gelding will have to deal with a wideish gate eight, but he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

ROYAL CHARGE also finished fourth in his last start over six furlongs, but in his case, just under three lengths behind the winner, this after losing a length down at the start. The gelding has pulled a handy draw three and should be involved in the finish.
