Race 7

ASHRUN has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 2500M with a third place finish next time out over twelve furlongs (G1), 1.7L back from the winner, but he jumped awkwardly that day and was reported to have been lame in his near-foreleg. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

He renews his rivalry with KALAPOUR who won that Group 1 event mentioned above. The gelding showed solid improvement to strike the front at the 150M mark and then hold off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire to win by a head. The latter is 1.5kgs better off with the top pick and does have a kinder draw six, but he is not as consistent and may not be as well suited to the step-up in trip as former.

CIRCLE OF FIRE is the stable companion of the top choice and overraced in the early stages and had to be steadied off the heels of another runner at the 1600M mark, before coming five wide into the home straight, but still managed to win his last start over thirteen furlongs by just under a half-length. He faces a wide gate fifteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and makes a useful back-up for the yard.

Race 8

Two 6-year-old mares could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but VIA SISTINA is taken to lead the field home. She is a Group 1 winner in the UK who won her first start in Australia over ten furlongs (G1) by 1.3L. She came four wide into the home straight that day but kicked clear of the field at the 150M mark to hold on for an impressive victory. She was returning from a 22-week rest that day and from draw five, she could be too good for this line-up.

PRIDE OF JENNI is a two-time Group 1 winner who tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in second place last time out over ten furlongs (G1), beaten just a head. From her useful gate three, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages.

MR BRIGHTSIDE is a six-time Group 1 winner who finished fifth in the same ten furlongs (G1) race as the former, 4.8L adrift of the victor, but he had to be held up at the 400m mark in that event, so he had his excuse. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but he nevertheless should be included in all bets.

Race 9

ZOUGOTCHA has cracked pole position and goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1300M (G2) and the latest over 1500M (G1), albeit by just a head. She raced clear of the opposition at the 100M pole and then held off the late challengers courageously. The filly has her peak run after returning from a 22-week break and could give the trainer/jockey combination of Chris Waller and James McDonald a quick double in the day’s Jackpot.

ATISHU is the stable companion to the former who won her penultimate start over a mile (G2) and then jumped awkwardly but battled all the way down to the wire to finish third next time out over ten furlongs (G1), two lengths off the winner. She is drawn one outside the top pick and represents a solid backup for the powerful Chris Waller training establishment.

TROPICAL SQUALL won her penultimate outing over seven furlongs (G1) and then finished fourth to the top choice next time out over 1500M (G1) just over a half lengths behind the winner. She in turn is drawn one outside the latter and should not be lightly ignored.

Race 10

The day’s best bet, RED CARD has her hat-trick run after two wins over 1100M, the latest a Group 3 contest and has had a subsequent barrier trial. She will have to deal with a wide draw fourteen out of fifteen, but the trio is very much on the cards.

SALTAIRE is seldom far off the action and was returning from a 19-week break when finishing third last time out over 1100M, three lengths back from the winner, but she finished well from some way back that day, suggesting that she should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. She on the other hand has a cozy draw two and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

WEE NESSY has finished third in her last two starts, the latest over six furlongs (G3), 1.8L back from the winner. She raced three wide into the home stretch on that occasion but stayed on well over the latter stages. The filly is drawn one outside the latter and should be involved in the finish.
