Race 7

I WISH I WIN has a Group 1 record that reads, eight runs for one win, two seconds and three third place finishes and finished second last time out in The Everest over six furlongs, beaten just under a half length, but he had to be held up between the 400M and 200M mark that day, so can be considered an unlucky loser. The gelding returns from a 25-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he is no stranger to winning after returning from a rest. From his handy draw four, he could be the one that they all have to beat.

A 5-year-old mare and a 4-year-old filly could chase him home, with a slight preference going to IMPERATRIZ who has won nineteen races out of her 26 career starts and seven out of her last eight outings, the latest over six furlongs (G1) by a head. She raced three wide without cover that day, striking the front at the 150M mark and then holding off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. She jumps from gate six and should be right up there when they hit the line.

SUNSHINE IN PARIS has yet to finish out of the top three places in her seven starts to date, winning four of those events. She had to switch out at the 320M mark to obtain a clear run, before finishing well to end up in second spot last time out over 1100M (G1), beaten just a head. She does face a wide draw nine, but she should be doing her best work late.

Race 8

ANOTHER WIL has won four on the trot, the latest over 1500M (G3) by 2.3L. He sat second and then kicked clear of the opposition at the 250M mark to win going away. Whilst the gelding faces a wide draw twenty-one, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

OBAMBURUMAI is an impressive Japanese import who won his first start in Australia over 1500M, albeit by just a short-head, when returning from a 25-week rest, but it should be noted that he had to be held up at the 250M pole before finishing off his race well to get up in the shadow of the post. He now has his first run for his new trainer and returns from a 22-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but although drawn wideish in gate eight, if he has fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

CELESTIAL LEGEND goes for his hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and the latest over a mile (G1) by a short-head. He raced three wide throughout in that event, came four wide into the home stretch, but still managed to battle all the way down to the wire, so that effort was full of merit. The colt has won a subsequent barrier trial, has pulled gate six and should be included in all bets.

Race 9

The day’s value bet, TOM KITTEN is seldom far off the action and although recorded as finishing sixth last time out over ten furlongs (G1), he was just over a length and a half back from the winner. The colt was staying on well that day, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here would be to his liking and from his useful gate three, he should turn in another honest effort here.

He renews his rivalry with RIFF ROCKET who has won three of his last four outings, including the latest in the race referred to above. He raced wide without cover in that contest and came the widest of them all into the home stretch, but was still able to record his sixth career victory. His jockey was however charged with a breach of the crop usage rule and the gelding is drawn wide in gate ten, but as the pair meet on the same weight terms today, there may not be much between them when they hit the wire.

ZARDOZI is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over 1500M (G2) with a third-place finish next time out over ten furlongs (G1), 1.3L back from the winner. She did however jump awkwardly that day and came three wide into the home straight, before making good late progress over the latter stages. On that effort, she should enjoy the extra distance and from her cosy draw two, she should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 10

LEARNING TO FLY has consistent formlines to her credit and tried to go from jump to wire when finishing fourth last time out over seven furlongs (G1), 1.8L back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She has pulled gate five and will be having her peak run after returning from a lengthy 48-week spell and is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today. The filly may prove hard to reel in over the closing stages and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

COMMEMORATIVE turned three wide into the home straight, but hit the front at the 200M mark and go on to record a comfortable 1.8L victory last time out over six furlongs. She was returning from a 17-week rest that day and jumping from a wideish draw eight, she should keep the top pick honest.

MIRAVAL ROSE has won two of her last three starts and finished second in the other, the latest victory coming when she put three lengths between herself and the balance of the field, this after going from gun to tape. The filly is drawn out wider in gate ten, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas.
