Race 5

THE ENGLISHMAN had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over 1500M, albeit by just a short-head, but he had to be switched at the 350M mark in order to secure a clear run that day and then shifted outwards from the 200M pole. The resultant objection lodged by the second-placed runner for that movement was overruled and the original result stood. He faces a wide draw twelve, but he should be doing his best work late.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG has posted two solid last runs and was making good late progress when ending up in fourth place last time out over 1900M, 1.3L behind the winner. The gelding gets gate seven and will be having his peak run after returning from a lengthy 48-week spell.

AUNT ROBERTA is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she won her maiden race in her last start over this c&d by a short-head, despite jumping awkwardly and being bumped at the 600M mark, followed by coming four wide into the home straight, so that victory was encouraging. The form of that race has also stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and from draw five, she should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 6

ROCSTAR BOY has consistent formlines to his name and finished well from some way back to end up in third place last time out over six furlongs, one and a half lengths back from the winner. He has pulled gate five and should turn in another honest performance today.

TYITA struck the front at the 200M mark and then stayed on well to win his last outing over 1500M by one and a half lengths. The gelding is drawn one inside the top choice and should be right up there when they hit the line.

THE HALO is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she was bumped at the start and raced three wide throughout when finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, just over two and a half lengths off the winner. The form of that race has been franked and notwithstanding a wide gate eleven, she should be included in all bets.

Race 7

CHIEF CONDUCTOR jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner, but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then kicked clear of the opposition to put four lengths between himself and balance of the field when winning his latest outing over five furlongs. He jumps from gate seven and will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

RESTRICTIONS also won his last start over five furlongs, but in his case by one and a half lengths. He showed plenty of toe that day and from gate five, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

STAR IMPACT is a 4yr old filly taking on boys and followed up her penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over a mile, 0.7L back from the winner, but it should be noted that she was bumped down at the start and shifted out over the last 100M, so she had her excuses. She returns from a 12-week rest but did finish second in her only barrier trial and whilst drawn wide in gate ten, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, FLEXING tried to go from jump to wire when stepping up to 1850M last time out, but finished fifth, 5.2L behind the winner. He won over seven furlongs three runs back and then finished second over this journey in his penultimate start, and looks to do better dropping back to what appears to be a more suitable distance. In addition, he gets cheek pieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

MINDSPACE is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over ten furlongs, just 3.2L back from the winner, but he only saw daylight at the 350M pole on that occasion and then shifted outwards from the 200M mark. The gelding is drawn in gate six and should turn in another honest performance here.

REGINALD shifted out shortly after the start, but battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second last time out over a mile, four and a half lengths behind the winner. The gelding has a useful draw four and will be hoping to go one better today.
