Race 4

A 4yr old and two 3yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but MISTY DREAMS is taken to lead the field home. She has cracked pole position and has posted two solid last runs, winning the latest over 1100M by 0.8L. She found herself towards the back of the field that day, forcing her to come four wide into the home straight, but she finished off her race strongly and the form of that race has been franked.

LIKA SUN has also had two improved last runs, being victorious in her latest outing over 1100M by one and a half lengths. She has pulled gate five and will be having her peak run after returning from a 33-week break.

NEVER SORRY is seldom far off the action and came three wide into the home stretch and had to be steadied off the heels of another runner at the 100M mark when ending up in fifth place last time out over seven furlongs, 2.7L behind the winner. She is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 5

TIME TO BOOGIE has consistent formlines to his name over this sprint trip, winning three runs back, followed by two seconds, the latest beaten just a head when returning from a 19-week rest. He showed plenty of toe that day and from a handy draw four, he is made the best bet on the day’s card.

CHIPPER’S last three runs have yielded a second and two third-place finishes, the latest over six furlongs, one and a half lengths back from the victor. The gelding jumped awkwardly in that contest, bumping another runner, but stayed on well over the closing stages. From gate six and with him having his peak run after returning from a 19-week break, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

RINGDEMBELLS is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she won over five furlongs three runs back, finished third over six furlongs in her penultimate start, before staying on strongly to finish third last time out over 1100M, 1,2L off the winner, but she did race three wide throughout in that event and was green in the home straight, so she had her excuses. She is sure to put her pole position to good use and should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, OPITO BALLERINA is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she had her consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over six furlongs, albeit by just a head. She raced just behind the leaders in that event and then finished the best to get up in the shadow of the post. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has a useful draw two and gets the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

SMOOTH FLIGHT tried to go from jump to wire when finishing fifth in his latest outing over 1300M, two lengths off the winner and on that effort, the drop in distance should be to his liking. The gelding will have to negotiate a wideish draw eight, but he should be right up there when they hit the line.

ENZINA is another 3yr old filly in the race. She has turned in two solid last runs, the latest when third over 1100M, just a length behind the winner, this after racing wide without cover. She is drawn in gate five and will have her peak run after a 20-week absence.

Race 7

SMART AS SMART had nothing go his way last time out over a mile, but still won a short-head. He was hampered shortly after the start, overraced in the early stages, had to be checked off the heels of another runner at the 800M mark, came four wide into the home straight, before finally hanging out over the last 200M. The gelding will have to deal with a wide gate nine, but a quick double could well be on the cards.

ZAMBRERO put a slightly disappointing penultimate run over 1500M behind him when finishing fourth last time out over nine furlongs, just over a half-length back from the winner and has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. The gelding was slow away in that event but produced a powerful finish from some way back and should enjoy the extra ground on offer today.

PIRAEUS was hampered at the 400M pole when finishing seventh in his latest outing over 1300M, 3.7L back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He has a useful draw four and will have his peak run after returning from an 18-week spell. With better luck in running, he could trouble the top two picks.
