Race 5

Three 3yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but GOLD PATTERN is taken to lead the field home. She has only had the three runs to date and has finished closer to the winner on each of those occasions, the latest when fifth over 1100M, 2.7L behind the winner and if she has continued down the same path of improvement, she could be the one to side with here. She was returning from a 24-week rest that day, but the form of that race has been franked and from a handy draw three and with ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

KILLER KERR has finished third in her last two starts and jumped awkwardly and had to be held up in the home straight last time out over 1300M, finishing 3.3L behind the winner. She jumps from gate five and will be having her peak run after returning from a 24-week absence.

Although OCCHIATA is recorded as finishing eighth last time out over 1100M, she was just 2.8L back from the victor. She was returning from a 21-week absence on that occasion and was crowded on the home turn and early in the home stretch, so she had her excuses. She is drawn wide in gate eleven, but she should be doing her best work late. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether his connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for him should be respected.

Race 6

ROCSTAR BOY has consistent formlines to his name, finishing second in his latest outing over 1300M, 0.8L off the winner, but he raced towards the back of the field that day and was forced to come the widest of them all into the home straight and then hung in from the 100M mark. Nevertheless, he finished off his race well, suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to his liking. The gelding is drawn wideish in gate eight, but he should turn in another honest performance today.

DA NANG STAR won over 1500M three runs back, finished second in his penultimate start over a mile and then seventh in his latest outing also over a mile, 3.5L behind the winner. He returns from a 24-week break but has had the two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and fourth in the latest to prove his fitness. He has cracked pole position and should be right up there when they hit the line.

SUPER is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, two lengths back from the winner, but he finished well despite hanging out from the six furlong mark. The gelding will have to overcome a wide gate twelve, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

Race 7

UNRAVEL has won two of his last three starts, the latest over six furlongs when putting 2.8L between himself and the opposition, this despite over racing in the early stages and being carried wide from the 350M mark. He struck the front at the 200M pole that day to win going away and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding has his first run after a 24-week rest but has had two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. From his useful draw four, he may prove hard to topple and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

BARRADAS jumped awkwardly and did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark, before finishing well to end up in fifth spot last time out over six furlongs, just a half-length behind the winner. The gelding is drawn one outside the top pick and will be having his peak run after returning from a 27-week break. In addition, he will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and gets cheekpieces fitted for the first time. If these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

PIRAEUS has consistent formlines to his credit and jumped awkwardly and was bumped at the 1400M mark when ending up in fifth place last time out over a mile, just over a length and a half adrift of the winner. He will have to deal with a wide draw twelve, but on the plus side, he will get 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 8

Two 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could dominate the finish to this race and secure the trifecta, but the day’s value bet, SHOW ME YOUR LOVE is taken to lead the field home She wore down the leaders after coming four wide into the home straight and hanging in over the latter stages to win her latest outing over a mile, albeit by just a head. She has cracked pole position and will have her peak run after returning from a 17-week absence.

MISTRESS also won her latest start over a mile, but in her case by 1.3L. She struck the front at the 200M pole and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. She will have to overcome a wide draw 13, but she should be reeling in the frontrunners over the closing stages of the race.

NOBLE BEAUTY had to weave her way through traffic down the home straight when finishing fifth last time out over a mile, 4.3L behind the winner. . She gets a kinder draw three and will have the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice, as well as having blinkers fitted for the first time and as such, should be included in all bets.
