Race 5

There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners LITTLE COMPLICATED may well prove to be the best. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when staying on well to end up in second place over 1300M, two lengths behind the winner. If she has continued down the same path of improvement, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

QUIZY raced just behind the leaders before finishing ninth last time out over seven furlongs, 5.2L back from the winner and gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time. If these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here, notwithstanding a wide draw ten. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 23-week break and should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

BIDGEE ELLY is a 5yr old mare who showed marked improvement to finish fourth in her latest outing over six furlongs, just under three lengths adrift of the victor, when returning from a 25-week spell. She will have to deal with a wide draw nine, but she should be included in all bets.

Race 6

SPIRITCHASER is a 3yr old filly taking on males and had solid formlines to her name prior to being a tad disappointing when finishing eighth last time out over 1100M, just over four and a half lengths off the winner, but she did race three wide without cover that day and had to be eased at the 100M mark. She was immediately rested for 23 weeks and returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest. She will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and he is sure to put her pole position to good use.

GOOD LIEUTENANT had to be held up on the home turn and then steadied off the heels of another runner when finishing second in his latest outing over five furlongs, five and a half lengths back from the winner. He on the other hand is drawn wide in gate thirteen, but he should nevertheless, keep the top pick honest.

FIELD OF HOPE is the only unraced runner in the field, but she has put in four encouraging barrier trials, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether her connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for her should be respected.

Race 7

BIG THINKING won over 1100M first time out, albeit by just a head, but he had to be held up straightening, before striking the front at the 100M pole and then fighting off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire, so that effort was encouraging. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat, notwithstanding a wide draw ten and as such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

ROMEO’S CHOICE has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just a short head back from the winner. He lost a length at the start on that occasion and then raced three wide throughout, before just failing to overhaul the winner in the shadow of the post.

DIAMOND BLUSH is a 4yr old filly taking on boys and showed plenty of toe when winning her maiden race last outing over six furlongs by putting four lengths between herself and the opposition. She takes on stronger here, but has a handy draw four and should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, BACKWATER TRADER has won two of his last three runs, the latest over five furlongs by a length. He sat second last and was held up on the home turn before delivering a powerful finish to win going away in that event. The gelding has pulled pole position and will be hoping to chalk up his sixth career win here.

PRETTY EXTREME is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she won her penultimate start over five furlongs and then tried to go from gun to tape before ending up in third spot last time out over the same trip, 3.8L off the victor. The form of that last race has been franked and she will be having her peak run after returning from a 16-week rest. Whilst facing a wideish gate eight, she will get cheekpieces fitted for the first time and if this move has the anticipated effect, she should be a big runner in this line-up.

BATTLE ABBEY has finished second in his last two runs and made good late progress in the latest when three and a half lengths behind the winner over five furlongs. The colt is drawn the widest of them all in gate fourteen, but he should be doing his best work late.
