TOP BET
Race 1: SECRET PATH(2)
Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD
SECRET PATH has improved with each outing and though she was 2nd best over the minimum trip recently, the manner in which she stayed on indicated that she will relish this extra distance. Of course, the well-bred bay filly flopped over this trip but that was on her debut showing and she has come on appreciably since. She has the gate speed to overcome her awkward draw.
Race 2: SPECTRA FORCE(8)
Jockey: Louis BURKE – Trainer: Harold CRAWFORD
As expected, SPECTRA FORCE benefitted from the apprentice claim when he dictated terms en route to an overdue recent triumph on this course. The bay gelding may have escaped with only the minimum two-pound penalty and he is undoubtedly even better over this slightly shorter trip. Admittedly, he takes on considerably stronger opposition now but has a low mass of just 49kgs and he could again enjoy the run of the race.
Race 3: METROPOLITAN(1)
Jockey: Anthony ANDREWS – Trainer: Willem A NEL
The betting market indicates the competitiveness of this nine-furlong maiden contest but the lightly raced four-year-old chestnut METROPOLITAN had a really pleasing comeback effort over a mile two weeks ago and he is certainly the one to beat. The son of Silvano stayed on for 2nd that day and he finished comfortably ahead of the form entrant Carlas Mambo who was back in 3rd position. He will strip fitter now and should relish this extra furlong on pedigree.
Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD
DUBULA enjoyed the rise in distance as he ran on well to finish 2nd best behind the highly rated Seattle Force over this track & trip four weeks ago. The 3rd placed entrant Dynamite Jack finished a creditable 2nd behind More Magic next time out and this son of Duke Of Marmalade should build on that progress. He is well drawn today and can go one better if jumping on terms.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY
Race 4: DEPECHE(2)
Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD
DEPECHE is a lightly raced four-year-old with obvious issues but she made good late progress for 4th in her comeback run over seven furlongs three weeks ago. Of course, she was returning from a 39-week rest and the runner-up Nicky Noo thrashed a decent field next time out. This daughter of Silvano should strip fitter and she could have a big say if she handles this distance.
