Winning Form Best Bets

Race 2: SO SUSPECT(1)
Race 3: CALICO(3)
Race 4: NIGHT DANCER(8)
Race 7: GLOBAL EXPRESS(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: FLICKER(7)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

FLICKER found some outside betting support when he showed pace on his debut over this trip on the grass, four weeks ago. He was understandably green but would have come on with that experience and the 3rd placed finisher boosted that form with a subsequent victory. The Fort Wood gelding jumps from pole position on his polytrack debut and he must be respected.

TOP BET

Race 2: SUMMER CRUISE(3)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

SUMMER CRUISE had excuses for her below-par last run but the Cape visitor had smart form behind some classy sorts in the ‘Mother City’ prior to that. She would have benefitted from the eight week break and the daughter of Sail From Seattle could take a power of beating, if she has travelled well and is suited by this surface. She has cracked the best draw which certainly helps her cause.

Race 3: MARTITA RIDGE(4)

Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

MARTITA RIDGE is another form runner that makes her local debut today but the former KZN inmate has polytrack experience and that is priceless. The lightly raced daughter of Tiger Ridge showed lots of speed before staying on for a good 2nd over seven furlongs on Greyville’s polytrack, six weeks ago. She has surprisingly changed ownership and relocated so soon but she clearly has more to offer. This slightly shorter trip will suit her and she could prove hard to beat

Race 4: SANCTUARY(3)
Jockey: Xolane NDLOVU – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

The three-year old filly SANCTUARY has shown useful ability from day one despite some issues. Her comeback form after a long break has been solid and she caught the eye when running on for 5th in a feature over seven furlongs on the grass, three weeks ago. Of course, she trotted up to shed her maiden tag over six furlongs in her only polytrack start in her penultimate outing. The daughter of National Emblem shoulders a hefty mass on her handicap debut but she meets ordinary older rivals and has plenty of scope. Her good draw is a major plus on her peak run and she could be the right one.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: SACRED GROUND(12)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Gavin SMITH

SACRED GROUND has made eye-catching late headway in each of his two local starts after relocating from the Highveld. He probably should have finished closer but for traffic issues on the grass last time and meets the 3rd placed finisher, CAPTAIN’S SLIPPER on 2.5kgs better terms for just over three lengths defeat. The Toreador gelding placed on this track in his penultimate run and he could have a big say on his third run in the province. His conditioner has engaged top Cape Town based lightweight jockey Van Niekerk and the five-year-old could represent good each/way value from his number 1 draw.
