AVENUE renews her rivalry with EVERCELL and the daughter of Fort Wood could reverse the form over this shorter trip. She made a bright local debut when only tiring late after setting the pace over 2200m last time and she finished just over three lengths adrift of the latter, that day. The 1kg weight reversal doesn’t seem enough but the four-year old filly would have come on with that local experience and most of all, Khumalo knows her better today. She should adopt similar frontrunning tactics and could find extra with just 52kgs on her back. She has her third run after a break.
Race 5: DEVON GOLD(2)
Jockey: V.Rensburg M – Trainer: Miller W G C
DEVON GOLD showed exactly what he is capable of on the sand when he produced a strong finish and almost upstaged a top quality sprinter over six furlongs, two weeks ago. The Muhtafal gelding did so from a poor draw but has now cracked a great barrier position and has no issues with this extra furlong. He is slightly out at the weights with STONE PINE on official ratings but could still be the one to beat. The one area of concern is that there may not be a blistering speed in this event.

Race 7: EASY TO PLEASE(4) – TOP BET
Jockey: Pheiffer E – Trainer: McKenzie D A
EASY TO PLEASE could be the province’s ‘shining light’ and the Newtcon colt is making up for lost time. He produced a smart c & d debut when heavily supported and then thrashed his maiden rivals at short-odds, second time out. He is highly regarded by his connections who took no chances when withdr- awing him when he was reportedly not striding out on 24/08. The lightly raced four-year old chestnut takes on a strong line-up on his handicap debut but has huge scope for improvement and could be way better than his very low merit rating. He should take a power of beating in a likely fast run affair.
Race 8: GRACEFILLY(3)
Jockey: Herholdt F – Trainer: Prinsloo M N
GRACEFILLY is a fast type who loves this c & d and she was caught late by male rivals, three weeks ago. She takes on stronger now but is back against her own sex and will be cherry-ripe on her third run after the layoff. She can defy her recent two pound hike in her rating.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 9: SADHU(9)
Jockey: V.Rensburg M – Trainer: Miller W G C
SADHU made good use of his handy draw when he improved to finish 3rd over seven furlongs in his comeb- ack run, three weeks ago. He will strip fitter and could prefer this slight drop in distance. The seven-year old gelding is again drawn well and he merits respect. WOLF’S GIRL loves this c & d and she brings solid recent form into this event. She was outrun late into a close 2nd in stronger company recently and has definite claims. The obvious concerns are her big mass and wide draw.
