Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: BARBOSA(1)
Race 2: FOREST(7)
Race 4: STREETWEAR(6)
Race 8: HAWKSWORTH(12)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: BARBOSA(1) – TOP BET
Jockey: Sean CORMACK – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

BARBOSA and VIVA LA VAR renew their rivalry after their clash over this c & d on Gold Cup day. The former produced a flawless performance when winning going away on that occasion and he is 1.5kgs to the good in this pinnacle stakes event. The Drier inmate is best in on official ratings and has strong claims of following up.

Race 4: TAKU WIND(5)
Jockey: Sean CORMACK – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

Once again, there are some smart maidens on display and a thrilling encounter is on the cards. TAKU WIND has improved smartly since his poor debut and returning from an eleven week break. He relished racing on this surface last time as the Windrush gelding challenged strongly and finished a close 3rd over six furlongs in a competitive field. That form has been franked and the Drier inmate now has his peak run. His pedigree suggests that he will relish tonight’s extra furlong and he could be a serious contender from a good draw.

Race 6: MASTER JAMES(4)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

This is an exciting topliner for the evening and once again a thrilling finish is expected. MASTER JAMES has produced two smart performances on this surface and he improved immensely during the KZN winter. The Cape raider handled the rise in distance well when involved in a great finish in the Derby last time but was surprisingly gelded four days later. He would have benefitted from the 13 week break and has plenty more to offer. He races fresh so the mile could suit him in his comeback run and the Jet Master gelding should go close with Delpech in the irons.

Race 7: AWARE(3)
Jockey: Warren KENNEDY – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

AWARE is c & d suited and he had a good last sprint over the minimum distance. His best recent form has come on this surface and he should be competitive in this field.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 2: FOREST(7) (Each Way)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Sean TARRY

FOREST made decent improvement when trying the mile at his third career attempt and there could be more to come from the Silvano colt. He was beaten some distance into 4th on that occasion but did race wide and was making steady late progress. His conditioner has wasted little time in stepping him up to ten furlongs and the bay colt has the pedigree to handle this distance. His trainer’s horses usually run well on this surface and the Tarry inmate deserves plenty of respect on his polytrack debut.
