Winning Form Best Bets

Race 2: STARWIN(2)
Race 4: ROY’S GUL GUL HA(8)
Race 7: FRENCH REVOLUTION(4)
Race 8: SHINE UP(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: GONDWANA(8)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH– Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

The Cape visitor GONDWANA had two fair efforts in the ‘Mother City’ and he meets a very moderate line- up on his local debut. The Seventh Rock gelding showed some improvement despite being green in his second start over seven furlongs. He weakened late that day and should prefer today’s slight drop in distance. Top jockey Delpech partners the three-year-old gelding from barrier 5 and the pair should go very close, if handling this surface.

Race 2: STARWIN(2)
Jockey:
Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Pat LUNN

STARWIN benefitted from cheek pieces in her much improved recent efforts and she is the obvious form choice in this event. She ran on well for 2nd on this surface over five furlongs in her penultimate start. She held that form despite being carried outwards on the grass in soft going subsequently and has further room for improvement. The daughter of Mogok is the clear first pick of the raced runners and she merits healthy respect. The equipping of blinkers could aid her cause & she gets the services of an in-form jockey.

Race 3: RED MOON AT NIGHT(3)
Jockey:
Anthony DELPECH– Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

RED MOON AT NIGHT is in good form but she was given every chance when staying on for 3rd in a competitive seven-furlong event on this surface, three weeks ago. That formline hasn’t worked out well but the Kannemeyer inmate drops in class and she will enjoy being equipped with blinkers. In fact, she was pipped over this c & d with the headgear on, late last season. She has a midfield draw and should again be involved in the finish.

TOP BET
Race 8: BLACK FOREST(7)

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Frank ROBINSON

BLACK FOREST is improving quickly but the sedate gallop cost him when he only got going late to finish runner-up on a rain-affected track over 1900m, two weeks ago. The son of Bold Silvano will relish today’s likely solid gallop and he has heaps of improvement to come. He jumps from a handy draw and gets the services of another top jockey.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: SILVER ROSE(11)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Willem A NEL

The lightly raced four-year-old SILVER ROSE has shown decent ability in the province and blinkers did the trick when he drew off to record an impressive last victory over 1900m on this course, two weeks ago. He was returning from an eleven-week absence so will strip much fitter. The son of Silvano takes a steep rise in class today but he has lots more to offer and merits healthy respect with his handy galloping mass of 52kgs.
