Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: GALTERO(5)
Race 2: ROY IS SECOND(4)
Race 3: MEDIA CIRCUS(4)
Race 6: MISS VARLICIOUS(2)

Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 3: MASTER RUNNER(1)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Willem A NEL

MASTER RUNNER
got back to form with a pleasing last run over seven furlongs on this course despite a few hiccups. His record over the mile is dismal but the chestnut gelding meets a very moderate field on his peak showing and could still land the victory. Top jockey Anton Marcus has been engaged.

Race 5: THE KING OF RAND(8)
Jockey:
Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Michael ROBERTS

With just nine runners going to post for this competitive three-year old handicap, a sedate gallop could be on the cards and that will suit the form runners. THE KING OF RANDOM has been ultra-consistent thus far and he ran on late for a creditable 4th after a slow start in a minor feature on the grass, five weeks ago. He was comfortably beaten by MY PAL AL and PALLADIUM that day but should be a different proposition tonight, particularly if jumping on terms. The slow pace could play into his hands and the chestnut gelding has obvious scope for improvement. He won his only showing on this track.

Race 8: ENLIGHTENMENT(3)
Jockey:
Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

There should be a cracking gallop in this low-key fillies and mares handicap where a favourable result is expected. The top selection ENLIGHTENMENT is much better than her last two efforts indicate and she could relish tonight’s rise in distance. The daughter of Toreador shed her maiden tag over a mile on this track late last season and followed it up with a handicap debut victory in yielding conditions on the grass. She is drawn best of all and is certain to enjoy the strong pace.

TOP BET

Race 9: ST ELMO’S FIRE(2)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

ST ELMO’S FIRE made the expected progress in her second local start when staying on for 2nd in a similar handicap over ten furlongs on this course, last month. She may have escaped without a penalty for that display and can go one better on her peak showing tonight.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: PHOEBUS(12)
Jockey: Alec FORBES – Trainer: Lezeanne FORBES

The major concern in this low-key handicap sprint is the lack of a solid pace but the blinkered PHOEBUS could make hay as a result of that. The five-year-old entire’ has some fair recent form at this level and he is one of many in tonight’s line-up, who represents the King Django c & d formline on 19/10. He tired late into 4th after a slow start that day but the headgear could make a real difference and he has the gate speed to overcome his wide draw. He could cause the upset.
