The top class colt BRAZUCA had a brilliant three-year-old campaign which culminated with his runner-up berth in the Grade 1 Champion’s Cup behind Horse of the Year Legal Eagle. His conditioner skipped the winter with him, possibly due to a setback which the imported colt may have recovered from. He meets a weak graduation field on his seasonal debut today and though he prefers much further, the imported son of Teofilo races fresh and is still the horse to beat. Naturally, he is extremely well treated by the weights.
Race 3: SEPTEMBER BLOOM(4)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS
SEPTEMBER BLOOM showed good ability before her 13-week break and she has the best credentials of this ordinary bunch. The formlines of all four of those efforts have worked out really well and the bay filly would have strengthened during the rest. Her yard has come to form recently and she should take some beating with ‘Striker’ in the saddle.
Race 4: ELUSIVE STRIKE(9)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Stanley FERREIRA
ELUSIVE STRIKE posted two smart efforts over seven furlongs on this track to date and only the lack of company cost her when she tired late into 3rd, second time out. She has lots of room for further progress and the daughter of Elusive Fort should relish the step-up to the mile. The formline of her last run has been fair and top jockey Gavin Lerena retains the ride.
Race 8: FIELDMARSHAL FENIX(3)
FIELDMARSHALL FENIX is way above-average and he posted two excellent performances to date. It is worth noting that the Sean Tarry inmate was carded to race on 10/11 so his progress there must be monitored. He certainly has lots more to offer and the likely suicidal pace will make-up for the fact that he prefers an extra furlong.
Race 6: GREEN CREST(5)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: David NIEUWENHUIZEN
GREEN CREST bounced back to form when finishing well for 2nd over a mile on a soft classic track three weeks ago. She has certainly reached a competitive merit rating and may have escaped without any penalty for that effort. The bay mare is effective over this shorter trip despite her c & d record suggesting otherwise and she is drawn favourably. Top jockey Strydom retains the ride and the pair can go one better.
