ARRAN ISLES drifted alarmingly but still produced an eye-catching debut when running on from far back for 2nd over this c & d, two weeks ago. She had mostly moderate sorts behind her that day but the daughter of King’s Apostle is entitled to have improved and she should have plenty more to offer.
Race 8: BEAUTE NOIRE(2)Jockey: Weichong MARWING – Trainer: Weiho MARWING
BEAUTE NOIRE is a model of consistency and she is effective on both local surfaces. She proved that when getting up late to win her handicap debut over this distance on the polytrack recently, despite shouldering a big mass. The daughter of Black Minnaloushe had promising form on the grass prior to that and she still has plenty of room for improvement.
Race 9: CALABASH(1)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Gareth VAN ZYL
CALABASH continues to be costly to follow but he seemed to have improved after being gelded. The son of Silvano took a long time to get going in his comeback run over the mile on the polytrack after the operation but he ran on strongly late to finish 3rd under Marcus. Admittedly, that was in an ordinary field but he will relish today’s rise in distance and must be respected. The slight worry is that his best recent form has come on the polytrack.
Race 10: ROY’S HOLLYHOCK(16)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS
ROY’S HOLLYHOCK benefitted from her debut experience & she relished the rise in ground when finishing well for 2nd over a mile in yielding conditions at Scottsville, second time out. She would have strengthened during the short nine-week break and the imported daughter of Husson can build on that outing. She should enjoy the rise in distance and merits healthy respect.

This is an extremely difficult low-key fillies and mares handicap where extreme caution is advised. WHATAWONDAFULWORLD could represent decent each/way value though and she will be retained by her 4kgs claiming apprentice. The bay filly had a much improved recent effort when tiring late in stronger company over the mile and will be better suited to this slightly shorter trip. She drops in class now and jumps from a better draw.
